Creating games as an indie-developer gives allows you to bring all of your ideas to life without the need for approval from another group. There are also so many technologies available that you can constantly learn new techniques.
I've been an Application Developer for Discover Card for 5 years. Part of my current role includes making games, and I've recently decided to pursue game development on my own on the side as well.
It's very much a professional interest. I would love to be able to make a living publishing games for mobile devices, and possibly hire some employees and grow my company.
I'm at a point where I need to have my hands in everything. I also did graphic design for Discover so I'm doing my own programming, as well as graphics, and animation. My tools of choice are C# and Unity 3D.
