We can lead two groups - the Rawhide Loop trail is about 4.7 miles, and is a moderate hike (sometimes very steep). The Wrangler Run trail starts out on the Rawhide loop, but bisects it - and is better for younger/older dogs/people. :)
If you want to meet in Golden and caravan, we will meet at 7:30 AM in the Starbucks parking lot on the north side of town at HWY 93 & Washington (turn in on Rubey Drive). We will then head up and meet in the parking parking lot at the end of the road in White Ranch Park. **Please note - the road to get there is VERY twisty in case you have dogs that get carsick...
Directions to Trailhead The Rawhide Loop Trail begins from the West Access Trailhead in White Ranch Park, 9.3 miles from Highway 93 in Golden, Colorado: Take Colorado Highway 93 north from Golden approximately 1 mile to Golden Gate Canyon Road. Turn west on Golden Gate Canyon Road. Travel west 3.7 miles to Crawford Gulch Road. Bear right onto Crawford Gulch Road and travel 3.9 miles to Belcher Hill Road. Turn right on Belcher Hill Road and travel 1.7 miles to the main West Access Trailhead. If parking is full you may backtrack several hundred yards on Belcher Hill Road to an auxiliary parking area on the side of the road.
This is rated a moderate 4.7 mile loop hike. We can bring lunch (keep in cooler in the car) and have a nice outing! Unfortunately dogs need to be leashed in this park (technically), but I'm sure they will enjoy getting out an about anyway!
The Rawhide Loop Trail circles White Ranch Park's highest meadows and rolling hilltops with exceptional views and varied terrain throughout. This transition zone between foothills and montane forest weaves a diverting tapestry of flower-riddled meadows, ponderosa parks and dense fir forest home to mule deer, turkey, fox, bobcat, bear, deer, elk and mountain lion. This versatile trail invites hikers, runners, mountain bikers, equestrians, back country campers and winter recreationalists of all abilities. The Rawhide Loop begins from the West Access Trailhead.
For a shorter but equally gratifying alternative consider using the Wrangler Run Trail, which bisects the Rawhide Loop. The Wrangler Run Trail cuts the roundtrip distance to approximately 2.5 miles, a good option for families, those with limited time or winter travel conditions.
