What made you learn American Sign Language?

My youngest child was born deaf. Auditory-verbal communication was a total failure. The started learning ASL when he was 2.

What is your experience thus far with ASL?

Have taken classes through CSDB, the old Center on Deafness, and PPCC. Definitely doesn't come naturally to me--especially receptive finger-spelling. But I've come a long way and want to continue to improve so that I can communicate well with my son and his Deaf family and friends.

My Deaf son lives in DC and is marrying a Deaf woman in June. I need, more than ever, to improve my expressive and receptive ASL skills.
