Mandala Exhibit: Special Events
(1) Revealing the Mandala's True Colors: Healing by Opening into the Depths of Inclusiveness
Date/Time: Thursday, May 29, 2014, 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Location: I.D.E.A. Space Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, 825 N. Cascade Ave.
Using the current IDEA Space exhibition “Mandala of Enlightenment” as inspiration, David Gardiner, professor of religion at Colorado College, and Sarah Bender, sensei, will discuss ways in which contemporary Buddhism is changing America, and Americans are changing Buddhism. IDEA Cabaret is an ongoing program at IDEA Space that invites participants from diverse perspectives to participate in lively public discussions inspired by current exhibitions. The public is welcome to join the conversation.
(2) Judith Simmer-Brown: "Dakini Wisdom: The Five Enlightened Consorts"
Date/Time: Friday, May 30, 2014, 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Location: Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, 825 N. Cascade Ave.
Associated with the "Mandala of Enlightenment" exhibition at IDEA Space, Judith Simmer-Brown’s talk will place American artist Joan Bredin-Price’s feminist interpretation of Tibetan tradition in context. Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown is distinguished professor of contemplative and religious studies at Naropa University, and an acharya, senior dharma teacher, in the Shambhala lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, since 2000. She is author of “Dakini’s Warm Breath: The Feminine Principle in Tibetan Buddhism and Meditation in the Classroom.”
(3) Daylong Dharma Study and Practice with Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown
Date/Time: Saturday, May 31st, 11 am to 4 pm (lunch included)
Location: CC Woman's Club at 20 Mesa Rd.
Suggested donation $25. No one turned away for lack of funds.
We are most fortunate to have Judith with us for this Daylong. It follows her public talk at CC the evening before, "Dakini Wisdom: The Five Enlightened Consorts," at the Cornerstone Arts Center, Friday May 30th, 4:30-6 pm. (Part of the CC IDEA Space Exhibition on "Mandalas of Enlightenment).
11am-12 noon: Take up in discussion the Dharma implications from her Friday evening talk on Dakini Wisdom
12-1 pm: Casual lunch and conversation. Vegetarian meal provided.
1-4 pm: Acharya Brown will lead a workshop on "Dharma and religious difference" with a focus on Inter-sangha dialog practice. (This topic comes beautifully as a follow up to our local May 10th Buddha Day celebration.)
