Our kick-off Meetup will take place at award-winning Hat City Kitchen (HCK) in Orange, NJ.  Please join us for dinner to learn more about the renaissance taking place in the Oranges -- and a unique model of local community investing that is providing affordable financing for 8 anchor properties around the central Orange and Highland Avenue NJ Transit Stations - the Neighborhood Anchors Fund, launched earlier this year.

HCK is an innovative social enterprise located in the Valley Arts District that not only provides delicious American comfort cuisine with a New Orleans influence, but all profits are used towards the area's ongoing revitalization through its owner and developer HANDS, Inc. It provides the perfect setting for a lively conversation about new opportunities in local community investing.

Learning about the history of Orange, the progress made over the past 15 years and its prospects for the future was interesting. Learning about Orange via the story of HANDS' work and the HANDS partners, with their personal stories, made it compelling.

As the organizer I may not be completely objective-- as " I know too much.' But I do think it was a good kick-off event and that people got a lot out of the evening. Initial feedback was positive but am interested to get other ratings.

It was an early morning tour of the Valley Arts District with the ED of HANDS, Pat Morrissy, when I really 'got' it. Beyond their strategic investment in abandoned 'pivotal' properties - it was the business owners' excitement and sense of possibility that I connected to. I knew right then that I wanted to be a part of it and share it with others. See you tonight at Hat City Kitchen, in Orange. Please be sure to get there as close to 6:30 as possible to get the most out of the evening.

I'm looking forward to inroducing many of you to our funky, dynamic "work-in-progress" - the Valley Arts District. It's an exciting journey and the folks you'll meet who are a part of it are pretty amazing - definitely the kind that you want to revitalize a small city with. Pat
