Mothers' Day Hike

Hanging Hills, Metacomet Trail, Castle Craig.  This is not a beginner hike. It is 7 miles in length with lots of up.

Description to follow.

Please do not use the "no" rsvp function unless you need to cancel from a "yes". This is a standard preference for all Connecticut Hiking Alliance Meetups. Other Meetup groups may have a different preference.

Distance: 7 miles, hiking time 3 - 4 hours

Location: Meet in the Hubbard Park parking lot located at 999 West Main Street Meriden, CT.

Pace: A moderate pace with breaks for water and views but the intent is to cover the distance.

Food and Drink: A snack or two and at least a quart of water.

Equipment: As we head into the spring months the weather and trail conditions will very dramatically therefore be prepared for all conditions.  As with all hikes, hiking boots are a must and with the potential of mud and wet conditions extra care should be taking when selecting a boot, maybe an extra conditioning of waterproofing would not be a bad idea either.  Proper clothing is also important, dress in layers, as we gather in the morning you will most likely have dressed for the current conditions then  as we start to hike and the warmth of the day starts to come upon us you will start to get warm and most likely start to build up a sweat and remove a layer or two.  Also there may be times when you may need to add a layer or two.

Cotton is NOT appropriate wear when executing activities that cause you to sweat and cool therefore please select your hiking attire appropriately...jeans are especially off limits they are heavy and will hinder your ability. Further, denim is uncomfortable when wet.  Inappropriate wear can impact your ability to hike and keep pace with rest of the group which can negatively affect the enjoyment of all the members of the group which is why you are expected to dress in hiking attire.  If you are uncertain as to what clothing or items are considered hiking wear, please email me directly, or email any of the co-organizers. We will also be able to share referrals to suppliers of both new and gently used hiking apparel and supplies

Apres-hike: As always, we will follow the hike with a social outing at a local establishment. We ask that anyone familiar with the area nominate a location that is NEAR THE LOCATION OF THE HIKE and is suitable for our group (ie; we will be fresh off the trail.) We also try to find places that will give us separate checks - with a smile. If you know of a place in the area, feel free to post your suggestion to the group. If you are unfamiliar with the area, please don't post.

I live in the area and the two places I would consider are Bella's http://www.bellapizzact.com/ It is probably 5 miles or so from Hubbard park. Great italian food, pizza, salads, chicken, wings, etc... One of my daughters works there. The other place is maybe 5 miles west. Its called Sparten II. http://www.spartan2restaurant.com/ with easy access to 691 to 84 or 91. Food is very good and they have a larger menue. I am not 100% sure if I can join for the after hike.....

Huntley - are these two places open on Sundays? Do they serve adult beverages for those who partake? Would they allow separate checks?

      May 8, 2013

Both open Sundays. Full bar. No clue on checks. I can swing by each and find out.

'930 Meriden Waterbury Tpke. Plantsville CT' Spartan II (the address they list vs the address in their driving directions vary slightly. This is the address that would work with a GPS (860)[masked]
