Canoe/Kayak Bantam Lake (White Memorial Park)

Get out of the heat and onto the water! You will need to BRING your own kayak or canoe (FYI: EMS and REI do rent).

CRITICAL:  Our outing is on a Saturday and the weather is expected to be grand. Thus - the spacious parking lot FILLS up before 10. And there are no other easy parking options. So... if you want to have a good start to your day, arrive BEFORE 9:30a.m. to the boat launch parking area. The address posted in the Meetup will get you there... so use it for your GPS or other mapping tool.

Bring water and snacks to have in your paddle craft as we will be out on the water for several hours.

When we are done paddling, we will get into our cars and caravan to a secluded picnic area within White Memorial Park. Bring your picnic items.  There are no grills, so plan on a picnic not a bar-b-que. And a dish to share is the plan.

In addition to the lake, there are a couple rivers/streams connected to Bantam Lake which are great for exploring.

Please do not use the "no" RSVP function unless you need to cancel from a "yes". This is a standard preference for all Connecticut Hiking Alliance Meetups. Other Meetup groups may have a different preference.

There will be an apres-kayak picnic as our after outing.! So bring a dish to share if you wish to stay for the picnic portion.

You will need to bring a personal flotation device (life preserver) to participate.

You may also want to take a swim, fish or go on a hike.

Location: State boat launch right across the road from 44 Palmer Road, Morris, CT.

Food and Drink: A snack or two and two quarts of water. Plus a dish to share and additional beverages if you plan to stay for the Apres-outing.

Equipment: Summer temperatures are here so be prepared but remember we are in New England and things can vary from day to day hour to hour meaning the weather conditions can vary dramatically so be prepared.  You will need to bring a personal flotation device (life preserver) to participate.

Cotton is NOT appropriate wear when executing activities that cause you to sweat and cool therefore please select your apparel with this in mind...jeans are especially off limits as they become heavy and uncomfortable when wet hindering your ability to participate and keep pace with the rest of the group.

Bug repellent and sun screen are a necessity.

Apres-event: As always, we will follow the excursion with a social outing.  The Apres-event for this day is a picnic by the water, instead of a local watering hole! Bring your bathing suit, towel, beverage of choice and a dish to share.

Legal: By clicking on "Count me in" or "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows:

In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Connecticut Hiking Alliance for and related to the above listed event. As usual... the bad weather only occurs before or after our events... not during! And thanks to the morning rains, there were very few boaters on the lake, giving us kayakers freedom on the water. And the river was beautiful! Now the buffet at the apres-hike picnic was magnificent! Bruce - your pulled pork finger sandwiches were scrumptious. Marlene - please post your recipe for your ginger noodle dish - it was fantabulous. And thank you Ludi for the corn on the cob. The two different Quinoa dishes were so tasteful... it was all good and there were even more not named here. And thank you Laurie for bringing your secret recipe dip. Eugenia - we are ever grateful for your desserts! What a spread. And best of all.... THE COMPANY! Thank you all for making my day (and morning)!

Darn, I will be away on the 13th. Been on the waterways a dozen times last Summer and on e a couple weeks ago... Love it here. There has been so much rain and water levels are so high, you can get past the beaver dam on the North waterway from Little Pond through the golf course :)
    Enjoy!!!!
