Hike the Regicides Trail, located within West Rock Ridge State Park

This 7.6 mile hike is not for first time hikers due to its length and rocky ups and downs over rugged terrain. The hike, which requires a shuttle, will take us south on the Regicides Trail following the crest of West Rock Ridge, known as one of Connecticut's most spectacular cliff walks because of its breathtaking views views in all directions the most dramatic being the shimmering southward expanse of Long Island sound, passing historic Judges Cave to South Overlook in West Rock State Park.

This is a Shuttle Hike - which means there will be car shuttling involved... thus we will meet at one end of the hike and car pool to the other, we will then hike back to the cars where we will need a few kind-hearted hikers to shuttle the earlier drivers to pick up the cars that were left at the start.

Please do not use the "no" RSVP function unless you need to cancel from a "yes". This is a standard preference for all Connecticut Hiking Alliance Meetups. Other Meetup groups may have a different preference.

Distance: 7.6 miles

Location: Meet at the South Lookout in the West Rock Ridge State Park which has a main entrance address of 1100 Wintergreen Ave, Hamden, CT

Pace: A moderate pace with breaks for water and views but the intent is to cover the distance.

Food and Drink: A snack or two and two quarts of water.

Equipment: Summer temperatures are here so be prepared but remember we are in New England and things can change from day to day, hour to hour meaning the weather and trail conditions can vary dramatically so be prepared for all conditions.  As with all hikes, hiking shoes are a must, foot support is important as we hike on hiking trails not walking paths.  Proper clothing is also important, please dress appropriately but be prepare for changing conditions taking layers off or putting them on may be needed during the stretch of a hike.

Cotton is NOT appropriate wear when executing activities that cause you to sweat and cool therefore please select your hiking apparel with this in mind...jeans are especially off limits as they become heavy and uncomfortable when wet hindering your ability to hike and keep pace with the rest of the group and this is why we ask that you dress in the appropriate attire when hiking with the group.  If you are uncertain as to what clothing or items are considered hiking wear, please email me directly, or email any of the co-organizers. We will also be able to share referrals to suppliers of both new and gently used hiking apparel and supplies.

Bug repellent and sun screen are again a necessity now that the warmer months have come upon us.

Apres-hike: As always, we will follow the hike with a social outing, your suggestions are always welcome and considering we are going to be in the New Haven area so I would expect that there would be some very good suggestions.

Are babies welcome? I would be carrying my daughter on my back. Thanks!

We hike at a pretty strong pace. If you would be able to keep up with the group then your baby would be welcome. Bob is our fast hike leader ... And the rest of the leaders are darn quick too.

Actually - in afterthought a baby on a shuttle hike wouldn't work because someone else's car would also need a car carrier.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
