This event is perfect for the beginner, intermediate or advanced hiker! So come on out one and all and join the fun on the Farmington.
As with all Connecticut Hiking Alliance events... Please do not use the "no" rsvp function unless you need to cancel from a "yes". This is a standard preference for all Connecticut Hiking Alliance Meetups. Other Meetup groups may have a different preference.
Please do take the time to read the entire event description. Much of the info is directly from the Satan's Kingdom website. There is also a copy of the waiver you will sign, below.
The 2.5-mile tubing run is more calm than wild, but you will encounter three sets of rapids. To be safe, face forward, keep your feet up, and hold on tight. The second set of rapids is the most likely to toss you off your tube and lifeguards are stationed at this section. The rest of the river is unattended. Much of your ride will be a lazy drift
Wear: Old shorts, swim suit, sunscreen, sneakers/water shoes/strap-on sandals. If you bring sunglasses, put them on a string! If you wear flip flops you won't leave with them. Pack a towel and a change of clothes - and leave them in your car. You'll want the change of clothes to come to the Apres-Tube event (info below)! Don't wear/bring sunglasses, a hat, jewelry, cell phone or anything else that you wouldn't want to lose.
Legal Stuff: By clicking on "Count me in" or "Yes" for this event you agree, warrant, and covenant as follows:
In consideration for accepting this entry, I, the registrant, intending to be legally bound, for myself, my heirs, my executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights for damages I may have against any parties or persons connected with the Connecticut Hiking Alliance for and related to the above listed event. I attest and verify that I am physically fit to participate in any portion of this above listed event. I grant the Connecticut Hiking Alliance permission to use any photographs, film or videotapes of this event for any purpose.
I am participating in this event with the understanding that many photos will be taken and it is likely that I will appear in one or more photos. And the Connecticut Hiking Alliance takes a LOT of photos! And we post many many! Be forewarned. If you are in the witness protection program, this group is not for you.
Cost: $20 cash only (no checks, no debit/credit, no ATM on site)
NOTE: Please make any general comments regarding how to improve or alter the overall processes of all the outings in the DISCUSSIONS tab. Requests for autographs should go through my marketing coordinator. Questions and comments to this event should be posted below.
To communicate with a specific individual member - please email them directly (through meet up) rather than posting comments. Postings become announcements to everyone which can be annoying. The postings to the site should be topics that would be pertinent to all members. Meetup sites all have email functions for conversations between members.
Apres-Tube: Perfect for the beginner, intermediate or extreme hiker! Dish 'N Dat is part diner, part sports bar. It's a very casual atmosphere. They also serve adult milkshakes and have an outdoor patio! They will allow separate tabs. And if the weather is nice we will enjoy their outdoor patio. And it's only 4.8 miles from Satan's Kingdom to Dish...

The Kingdom's list of Do's and Dont's:
Tubing the Farmington River isn't for everyone. You must be at least 10 years old and at least 4 feet tall. You must weigh at least 50 pounds and may weigh no more than 300 pounds and you need to know how to swim. Maximum chest size (as defined by the U.S.C.G. designation on the largest P.F.D.) = 62”
No dogs . The current can be strong in places, especially after a rain. The water is cold, and once you start your ride, there's no turning back.
Use restrooms before you set out. The time of your ride can vary based on the current, you're looking at at least two hours stuck in a tube. Plan to wait a bit, wet and cold, at the other end for the Farmington River Tubing blue shuttle bus to pick you up.
River tubing is not for some people. This is not a man made amusement park ride, it is mother nature's river.
Upon arrival, read all information signs, ask questions, and be sure you want to partake in this activity before you rent equipment. Once you rent equipment there are no refunds.
You must return the equipment properly. You will be charged for equipment lost, damaged, or not properly returned. You must get to the designated take out area of the river (2.5 miles away) to get the bus ride back. There is no other place to get out or way to get back.
Satan's Kingdom does not control the river or any part of it. You are on your own. You must securely fasten you own personal flotation device and safely maneuver your own tube. If you need instructions, ask before you enter the river.
The river is rough and contains class 1, 2, & 3 rapids, rocks, trees, and other obstacles. You can be injured! You can fall out of your tube and you are on your own to get back to it. The river is unattended! There is a assistant at the 2nd rapid only. Their purpose is to assist if your feet get stuck in the rocks and are trapped under water. This can happen if you try to stand up in the rapids; for your safety, Do Not stand up in the river. The assistant cannot leave their post, retrieve tubes, or assist people who have fallen out of their tubes. They must maintain their focus for foot entrapments.
If you have an emergency along the river you are on your own to get notification to the bus driver at the take out, the office at the start, or the assistant at the 2nd rapid so we can notify “911” of your situation. The tubes are not puncture proof. Popped tubes must be returned to get another one. We do not control the weather. It can change at any time. It is your choice to rent or not; given the weather conditions during the duration of your ride.
Everyone who uses the rented equipment must be able to swim through class 1,2, & 3 rapids. You cannot use the rented equipment if you are; pregnant, under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other imperative substances, experiencing neck, back, or other conditions that could be aggravated by the use of the equipment.
No ropes, paddles, fish poles, or other hazardous items allowed. The equipment is not designed for pets, therefore they cannot accompany you.
No smoking. No food, beverage, or other potential litter allowed.
Remember: They except cash only and there is NO ATM on site.
More from Satan's Kingdom website - PLANNING YOUR DAY TUBING:
Wear bathing suits or shorts; or whatever you are comfortable swimming in. It's also a good idea to wear something on your feet: Sneakers, Teva's, water shoes, or wetsuit boots. Don't wear heavy boots.Leave all unnecessary items that you don't want to lose, at home(eyeglasses, watches, rings, favorite hats, and jewelry are commonly lost during tubing.)Our P.F.D.'s (life jackets) get a lot of use and are always wet. We do wash them weekly but they still smell. You can bring your own coast guard approved P.F.D. (life jacket) to wear instead of using the ones that we supply. If you bring your own it must be a coast guard approved P.F.D. (life jacket).Changing houses and restroom facilities are also available.Although no effort is spared to provide you with a safe tubing experience, water and river activities have both inherent and unknown risks and dangers. These include but are not limited to injury or loss of life. Assistants are posted at the second set of rapids (this is the largest set during the tube ride) to assist you if you have an emergency. The rest of the river is unattended and you will be on your own. Everyone (including minors) must sign a waiver before tubing down the river.
