This is a 6 mile section hike of the Tunxis Trail, we will meet in the cal-de-sec of Panthorn Trail Road in Southington, CT take a few vehicles south on Mt, Vernon Street to Whitman Road (Southington Sportsmen Club) also in Southington, CT then hike back to the vehicles. The hike is of moderate to strenuous difficulty - best for hikers that have experience with trail hiking of more then 3 hours as well as elevation hiking.
There is snow or ice on the trail and we will be hiking some tough terrain across rocks and ledges, therefore micro-spikes are suggested.
I request that all hikers joining my outings wear boots and appropriate hiking clothing (no blue jeans).
Layers that are easy to peel off and on are especially important in colder weather. You will get very warm while we hike and quickly chill when we stop for breaks. Inappropriate wear may actually make the hike difficult for you and if you have difficulty it will impact the other hikers.
Please bring 2 Liters of water and snacks - especially items containing protein and sugars.
As with all of the Alliance hikes... we will have an apres-hike outing. If you know the Southington, CT area, please suggest a locale near our hike location.
