Creative Writers Ambler Meetup

At this Meetup, we'll gather as a group to share our experiences with writing during the month. We'll share ideas and resources and offer encouragement about writing and the process of developing our projects - for ourselves or for publication. We'll also take some time to do writing prompt exercises or other fun writing activities as a way to increase our spontaneity, gain energy and inspiration, and have fun together. If you have writing that you'd like to share, please bring copies with you. We are always happy to celebrate the positive in the work we review and to offer constructive feedback where invited. If you have ideas for fun writing exercises we can do together, please bring them! We will be meeting once per month, on the 2nd Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. If you want to suggest additional times and places to meet, please know you are encouraged to do so. This is a community for all of us!

Hi, I hope it's OK to write here... I had a good time yesterday, and I hope to attend more meetings in the future. Unfortunately I'll be working in North Carolina the second week of October, so I'll not be able to attend next month (I promise to write those 50 pages anyway). And here is information about Luis Buñuel and his film The Exterminating Angel (I love all Buñuel movies) => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Exterminating_Angel_(film)

By the way, have you seen Woody's "Midnight in Paris"? Take care writers! :-)

Well, in that movie there is a scene where Gil suggest Buñuel the argument for his movie the exterminating angel, and Buñuel said "I don' understand... Why is that they cannot leave!" :-)

I just wish we'd get down to writing and the craft of it. The conversations/laments remind me of a dog spinning in it's bed before it lays down. The groups potential is very good, but an hour of intros is too much. How about making the intros creative? How about an assignment of 50
words or less as your intro? Or write a Haiku as your intro?

Good meeting tonight. Disappointed we didn't get around to sharing our work, but plenty of good topics and good conversation.

Different perspectives. Ask the group to think of something they dislike and write about it as though they love it, then change perspectives and write about it as though they dislike it, and then write about it as though they didn't care one way or another about it. Suggested by Goldberg, this exercise is a great challenge for people's imaginations, and a means for getting them to explore different writing perspectives. This helps especially with fiction writing.

Although I haven't met with your group yet (I look forward to doing so in the future), I am actively writing and getting ready for NaNoWriMo. You all might be interested to know that the Harford County Public Library, where I work, is offering a writer's conference [Just Write, $50)] on Sunday, September 29th. You can also pay an additional $50 if you want a manuscript read by one of the presenters.

And here at my branch in Havre de Grace, MD, we are offering a 4 session series to get folks ready for NaNo (free) on Monday evenings
    First session is Sept 16th.

All of these have guest presenters, both the conference & and the Write a Novel: You Can Do It workshop series.
