Casual and Critique

Casual and Critique-

Hello all, alright at our last meetup, people expressed an interest in once again doing our casual and critique meetup. At this meetup we have in the past critiqued writing; offered suggestions to works in progress, worked on character development and story structure and even explored poetry.

This meetup is where we can discuss and practice our writing, examine our works with a critical but helpful eye and explore new techniques to improve our respective projects.

I am looking to seeing how many people are interested or committed to doing this. During the summer we often had writers who didn't feel comfortable or were unable to make the normal meetup but made the casual meetup.

The link below shows the submission rules for the writer as well as the critiquers.

Just wanted to thank everyone involved in the critique! I have finished the story and my trusty editor and I have finished the creative editing. I waiting on her technical edit and then I'm going to enter it into the Glimmer Train New Writers Contest at the end of the month. Thanks for your help in this!

Bobby, your email link won't let me send anything to you (says undeliverable). Also, has anyone else submitted in advance?

I am going to submit my short story progress. See what y'all think. I'm at about 3500 with it but we'll try to pick out a smaller section. I'm happy to look at others if you send your materials my way. Notquitebill at gmail dot com.

Cool. IF for some reason you end up needing a palace you are welcome to use my home in Warrington. Eight people is no problem.

Eve send it to me I will forward it to those attending. As I said Howard you don't need to print anything. Just critique works brought to the meet up.

I know I won't be printing out 10-14 pages from 8 people so I will try to save them on my iPad in an app writing program called "My Writing Space." If not, I will just bring my laptop.

Is there any way I can send my doc to just the people coming to this crit session rather than all 284 members of the group? I can't seem to figure out individual email addresses.

If you can submit to the group. Also print 2-3 copies. If you cannot get the group I will send it. Looking forward to reading your script.

Bobby, how do I submit my work to you or the group? And am I printing enough versions for everyone or only a few people?

    October 18, 2012

  • RM W.

Hi Jennifer. You are welcome to sit in but you will have to assist in critiques if you don't mind.

Since this would be my first time, would I be able to observe the process or am I required to have my writing submitted on the first meet up?

    October 17, 2012

Only if someone is sending works for a more indepth critique. All critique groups do this for longer and more comprehensive readings. Usually one to three readers do this with extensive works.Otherwise its what ever is brought. How ever you are never required to do it if you don't want to.

Since there are eight of us we can break into groups of four for the read and feedback. This way everyone has an opportunity to get feedback. If you want more send your to each member or to me and I can do a group email. Looking forward to next week.

Since I was critiqued last week, I do not plan on submitting anything new at this time, However; I look forward to reading others' work and seeing everyone again.

Advance submissions have to be submitted by thursday at the latest to give the critique group time to read the work.

    October 16, 2012

Trying to get my treatment in order before the last minute...are we setting any deadline for advance submission so everyone has time to read? Haven't been to Cafe Au Lait, but willing to give anywhere a shot.

    October 15, 2012

If you want your worked critiqued please let me know. I will email you the critique format we will use. If we have a large group of people we can send the works to one another. This will help get the critiques done prior to the meetup. If you want to be critiqued you have to also be willing to critique others. I will wait for at least 5 people to sign up before I set up a place/date/time.

Yes, I am still looking for a place near Fort Washington that has room and will not be put off by a gaggle of writers coming in to read and critique their works.

Sounds good to be. I wouldn't be available this coming Wednesday but I would be the again the next Wednesday again.

Has anyone been to Cafe Au Lait located at
    421 S Bethlehem Pike
    Fort Washington, PA 19034
    (267)[masked]

If so, how is it? Is it roomy enough for a small meetup to take place? Is the coffee good? If you have a location let us know about it so we can decide on a place.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
