I'm hoping that something structured with feedback not couched in positive affirmation will allow me to develop a better writing voice. I've only been doing short short fiction (barely above flash fiction, but not quite the lower limit of what would be published as a short story), but since joining I have noticed an improvement. Practice makes perfect.
I've always felt I missed my calling in doing something creative for a living, but I don't have the talent developed enough to make a proper go of it. Had a brief glimpse of the possibility of success when National Lampoon approached me to write a comedy book, but it got turned down in the end. Big fan of the power of escapism, I usually lose interest in stories that could conceivably happen in real life. As such, I gravitate towards the sci-fi/fantasy side of things. Mostly sci-fi. You know, stereotypical nerd interests. I write speculative fiction almost exclusively.
I am an aspiring failed author.
Well I was a fan even before I got bumped up to Assistant Organizer. Met lots of quality people so far, hoping we can really build something good here using Meetup's tools and some other stuff to facilitate sharing material between such a disparate group of people.
