Easily the most important (and controversial) museum in the U.K., the British Museum is a centuries-old colossus of world artifacts, and the second most visited museum in the world (after the Louvre).
The British Museum has the world's largest collection of Egyptian artifacts and antiquities outside the Egyptian museum in Cairo, including objects of all periods from virtually every site of importance in Egypt and the Sudan. Among the 100,000 or so artifacts are the world-famous (and contested) Rosetta Stone, and 140 mummies and coffins.
With 100,000 objects from the Classical World, including the contested Elgin Marbles, the British Museum collection rivals the host countries' themselves.
We will have (at least) three treasure hunts at this museum over 2012, to do it the best justice!
We will meet outside the British Museum in the main courtyard by the steps between 1-2pm (come any time in that hour). If you come a bit later call me and we should still be able to integrate you into the hunt.
Everyone will be allocated to groups of up to 5 people (or you can make your own groups). You can come in a 'closed' group, come in an open (accepting others) group, or come alone and be put into a new group. No groups can be larger than 5 people (to be fair). You will be given a challenging and rewarding list of clues, riddles and prompts to work out and follow that will help you get the best out of this classic museum. There will not be a 'race', so you can take your time to explore the museum.
There will be a charge of £5 per person for this meetup which you can pay when you arrive. The winning group (who gets the most correct answers) will receive a £10 gift voucher each.
After the hunt we will rendezvous at a nearby pub (TBA) for a drink and a natter, and to announce the scores. The meetup should finish around 5:30pm.
Call me on my mobile if you come late on the day and we can still integrate you into the hunt: 07766 357986.
Happy hunting!

56 people x £5 = £280, is that the prize for the winning team?
I'm not able to come! I'm so gutted. My 2 guests however will more than likely still arrive. I'll be there for the next one :(
What a shame to have missed this event. I've really enjoyed them in the past and Steve obviously puts lots of time and effort into the clues with a cryptic twist. I've no doubt this event didn't disappoint.
Hi guys - here are the answers to yesterday's hunt: Hesiod (the poet); Sceptre (four among hundreds, one arm broken); Queen Ahmesmerytamun (a woman); 100 years to grow a beard; Greece (a country on this earth); 17 years, 1 month and 25 days - mummy upstairs with displaced organs; a bird is the missing hieroglyph in 'cat'; Nike (sneaker/trainer); drunken centaurs in the Bassai Frieze; missing a ribbon or head, depending on statue; medusa on a cosmetics bost; Helios, god if the sun rising from sea
It was such a fantastic evening! For sure I will be attending the next ones!! Thanks for the time and effort Steve!
It was very fun!... As Janina from our group said ?we came as random strangers and finished as a good team!?. Would do it again! Thank you Steve
To echo what my wonderful team mates Marina, Janina and Silvia say above - it was indeed fun! Well done team. We might've come 8th but we are still The Conquerers :-)
I said, It has been funny, but I meant, we had a lot of fun!!! :D
