Discussion in matters of Philosophy

We will meet in the Kogod Courtyard and take topics from the attendees and by show of hands select a topic to discuss. This is always good discussion as we consider it a Perspective Interchange.

At our last meeting on May 6 an attending philosopher asked the question "Can we trust Science?" The members there will agree this is no simple question and our discussion ran over, as usual.

Please join us to hear and be heard.

That sounds encouraging Chris. I have been working on this exact thing during this summer and getting close to a few things. Give me another week or two then let's meet? Steve.

Well Chris a number of things. Get a read from the members as to what they expect, then develop meets to satisfy that. This group was becomig more of a social thing. Such social meets are fine but I personally have a desire to obtain a better understanding of philosophy through dialogue. If I am to devote any more time to this it will be on the philosophy side of the equation. Not a rigid think thing but a fun thing but moving in a direction.

Couldn't get anyone to help me. If I use that as a measure of interest then the lack of them meets that measure.

This certainly was the most disconcerting of any meetups that I have ever attended. and I have attended quite a few. It was confused and disorganized. Today the leader did not appear to see himself as a fascilitator, but an advocate. Instead of encouranging a dialogue between many, he appeared to consider it a dialogue between himself and everybody else. He mistook a very legitimate position from one participant as an offense to himself. It wasn't. It was a very reasoned disagreement and not an attack. One in which I found great merit. I hope the leader apologizes to the party he offended.

Either almost no one showed up or the group was too dispersed in Kogold. 2.5 hrs travel + gas + fares to wait. Frustrating way to end the weekend.

This is facinating to me and Carol Gilligan is way up on my reading list.

I have stopped RSVPs at 37 to avoid too large a crowd but please wait list and depending on the number will schedule another discussion within a week. If you do waitlist please indicate if there is a day or time preference. With the summer months I want to be flexible to adjust the discussions a bit. Steve.
