Hello everyone, the group will meet at Eatonville Restaurant http://eatonvillerestaurant.com/. Eatonville is the premier southern food restaurant in the city offering both traditional and non-traditional southern dishes. Sited in the historic U Street Corridor, the restaurant highlights Zora Neale Hurston's strong connection to Washington DC.
The restaurant is located at the corner of 14th and V Street NW - 2 blocks from the Metro Yellow/Green Line - U Street Cardozo stop.
Underground parking is operated by Colonial Parking and is accessible from V Street between 13th and 14th.
1. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, the RSVP list is limited to 12 members. Please note: If you RSVP "YES" please make sure you can definitely make it. With almost 500 members and limited seating, we cannot afford no-shows. It's unfair to the other members who would like to attend and also to the organizers who have to explain to the restaurant why the reserved # of guests didn't show. Information related to the billing and gratuity process will be sent separately to members who RSVP to attend the Meetup.
2. If the RSVP list is already full, please wait-list for the event and check back regularly to find out if a slot has opened.
3. Attending Events
Each event is coordinated by one of the group's organizers. The reservation will be under the organizer or the DC Poetry Project name. Plus, we're usually the largest reservation at the pre-defined time frame [15 + people, as defined in the event RSVP totals] so it's easy to figure out. Members that come in early will often meetup at the restaurant's bar [if applicable] for drinks/mingle, or wait to be seated.
4. Billing Guidelines
We have adapted our “Eat, Meet and Greet” guidelines from the extremely popular Weekly Dinner Meetup group. Weekly Dinner has been in existence since 2005, so they seem to have mastered the art of the group dining. Therefore, carefully read the guidelines below.
Billing: How's that handled?
The Event Organizer will coordinate the billing.
When the event is "open menu" / "a la carte" [which is most of our events], the Organizer will manage the process to ensure everyone pays their specific amounts. If any food / wine is shared [i.e. split] among several members, those folks should divide it evenly on their own bills.
Typically the check will be a SINGLE GROUP bill [not individual]. These are typically the *restaurant's required rules* in order for us to have an extreme large party reservation. Gratuity [i.e Tip] + Tax. Since we're dining in a large group, restaurants will assign an automatic, fixed "large group gratuity" into the final bill.
The billing process will have the check passed around to each person. Everyone will then tally their individual Total Cost [food, beverages, alcohol if consumed}. Payment for that Total Cost should go to the Organizer [cash/credit card].
The event's Organizer will then tally ALL CASH + ALL CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS so that it definitely equals the Final Bill total [which will already have their fixed large-party gratuity factored]
How Do I Pay: Cash, Debit or Credit Cards?
Cash is ALWAYS preferred and recommended for payment, although credit cards can be selectively taken. [logistical nightmare for a restaurant to handle 15+ credit cards, as some restaurants' credit card systems have a limitation on the # of cards accepted for payment].
==> Best to have sufficient amount of cash if at all possible.
Those with credit cards: We'll provide small yellow "stickies" to you. Tally your Total Amount Due on the sticky along write the last name [must match what's on your credit card]. Attach the sticky to your card & pass back to the Organizer so they can tally your payment to ensure the Total Bill [the entire group's food, beverages, tax and fixed large-party gratuity] is covered.
Note: If using a debit or credit card, please:
Do not breakup your TIP outside of your total "To-Charge." As mentioned above, the included TIP+TAX is already factored on the overall group bill.

We Welcome Restaurant Recommendations
According to the Weekly Dinner Meetup the following should be taken into consideration, when suggesting a restaurant:
1) Can the restaurant accommodate our typical group size. Our events need enough space for our typical group sizes of 15-20 attendees [although, we'd consider some limited-seats events on occasion too].
2) If possible, locally owned & operated. Part of the point of this group is to experience what DC specifically has to offer, and chains that you can find nationally don't hold as much appeal to us.
3) Accessible to public transportation. Although not a requirement, Metro-accessible is preferred.
