Half and Half Saturday: A Special Presentation

The DC Poetry Project is pleased to announce acclaimed poet, Will Dennis will be joining us for a very special Half and Half. Mr. Dennis will be our featured poet during the afternoon of April 26, 2014 at 12:00pm. He will be reading selections of poetry from his new book Welcome to My Realm: Words of a Man Raised in an Urban Jungle. An Open Mic poetry/spoken word session will follow for all who wish to read their own work, or some of their favorite poems.

Will Dennis
Will Dennis has been writing poetry since he was 10 years old as a way to escape the challenges of growing up in the projects, and later on in life, foster care. He uses his poetry to give the audience a better understanding of his multiple alter egos and to relay his experiences in life through his work. He says he is not a writer, but more of a language revolutionist. He has performed at such venues as the Nuyorican poets Cafe, Be-side Radio Performers Series, and Inspired Word Poetry Series and he has also graced the stage at collegiate venues which include the Pennsylvania State University, SUNY Oswego and the University of Pittsburgh. Outside of poetry, Dennis works as a Strategy Analyst for Accenture, a global management and technology consulting and services firm.
Mr Dennis' first book is an anthology of poems that he has been writing since the age of 15. It highlights the different realms that he has endured; his trials, tribulations, hardships and triumphs in hopes to give someone a voice who could not muster up the courage to say what is on their mind. The poems range from topics such as love, desire, empowerment, and includes a short story of the struggle that he endured while persevering through unfortunate and uncontrollable life circumstances, a struggle that made him the man that he is today.

Wow! The Meetup was great! Self expression is so important. In many instances, opportunities to truly be ourselves, celebrate our victories and discuss issues that affect our lives are often few and far between. So, I commend Mr. Dennis for sharing his truth and inspiring others to do the same. Also a special thanks to Kendall for arranging the event. You make me wish I too had graduated from Penn State. The support you give each other is encouraging to see. Until next time...

I am hoping that one of my students comes to Half and Half. She is writing a memoir, and I think that it would be interesting for her to meet people who have written and published books.
