Art Journaling Meetup

A few months ago my friend Jody Moore brought me some ‘Accordion Fold Journals in a Tin’ for a future project. (See pic below.) I have 4 of those Journals left and I will give one to each of the first four people who arrive on Thursday evening. If you are not one of the first four and still want to do an accordion journal I will demo how to make one.

So what are you going to do with the journal? One very popular idea this time of year is a
Day of the Dead theme. (Shout out to Lisa Vollrath ) How about a different Sugar Skull on each page?

Another idea is to pass the journal around and have each member of the group create something on one of the pages.

Or, you think about all the things that make you smile or laugh and dedicate one page in the journal to each of those things. Then journal, paint, color or glue pictures on each page. It could be your ‘happy place’. You know, for whenever you need to go there.

Supply List for an Accordion Journal

Paper (heavier than copy paper, lighter than card stock, a small roll of paper is ideal)

Cardstock, Cardboard or Book board for the journal cover

Glue (PVA if you’re a professional, but Elmer’s will work just fine for the rest of us)

Ribbon or String and maybe some brads because you’ll want to securely close the book. I often just use a big rubber band.

Ruler, Scissors and whatever other supplies you want to use.

I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday and remember if you don’t want to do the suggested project for that week then bring what you do want to work on. We just would like to have you join us, we are flexible like that.

Okay, so it says 'Album in Tin'. But since this is a journal meet up let's just say I took creative license.....

See you on Thursday -

No problem, it IS confusing. The meetup on the 26th (4th Thursday) is now at the library.

The meetup on the 11th (2nd Friday) is now at the Jaycee Park&Center for the Arts.

      I hope to see you.

Yea, I think the confusion is that I didn't realize there was a library on Rochelle...

Hi, there! So will there be a meetup on the 2nd Friday in October (the 11th?)? I didn't see it on the calender. Thank you!

There is a huge screen on the wall in the Meeting Room at the West Irving Library. It's great for watching free online art videos. Maybe a future meeting could be devoted to something like Zentangle. The creators of Zentangle have a Youtube channel:. We could try a follow-along on a video.

I will be there with buttons on. Yes, not bells, but buttons. I have found a book that I want to make so IF I have time to cut two pieces of chipboard, some signatures, and punch some holes, I will be there with wire and buttons to create the binding.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
