Needle Felting ---A New Technique for the New Year

Let me see a show of hands---how many of you have heard of needle felting? How many of you have tried it? Anyone really good at it? Sorry, I can't see your hands. We will have to have some discussion

The latest issue of Cloth Paper Scissors has an article on Needle Felting. Lisa R, Linda S and I thought that sounded like the perfect project to start the new year since it is something that we have not done yet.

As for supplies, I honestly don't know yet but I will post a list at least a week before the meetup. You can Google Needle Felting and find supply lists, tutorials, samples, etc. Check out the latest Cloth Paper Scissors for info and ideas. I am betting that everyone of us has at least 2 or 3 magazines or books with all the info we need. I will ask Meg to post a list of supplies that she will have available at Googly Eyes. If you need to buy anything, please check with Googly Eyes first. They have provided us with a meeting place for over 3 years and we need to show our appreciation.

If this is a craft you already have experience with, please share you ideas and suggestions. Any and all help will be appreciated.

I am looking forward to this project. It is always fun to try something new. As for the rest of the year, there is another project in CPS that looks fun, colorful and messy that might be good for February and then it might be fun to spend the rest of the year working out of book that I found (and need to find again) that will give us a lot of ideas and instruction for creating backgrounds. Instead of planing projects that a few or many no one really wants to do, it might be a good idea to work on backgrounds and techniques that can be used in any number of projects that you will do on your own over the next few years. Backgrounds that can be used for cards, scrapbooking, collage, altered books, etc., etc., etc. Backgrounds that use unusual items for creating textures, shapes, lines, color. Think texture, layers, lots of color, lots of creativity. Lots of fun. I will find the book and post the info for anyone who wants to buy it. We will decide on a schedule for the rest of the year and you will have an idea of what we will be doing each month.

However----If you have project that you really want to do as a group and you can get at least 8 people to commit to it, we will consider it. Please, please speak up if that is the case. I am just trying to find something that will keep everyone interested and get our participation up again. Without feedback from you I am left wondering if people are losing interest, you just don't have time, you don't want to do particular projects/techniques, etc.

Here's to a very creative 2013!

    One more thing -- Kathy is correct; the latest edition of Cloth, Paper, Scissors is chock full of ideas. And we still have copies at the shop, if you don't have yours yet.

    We DO have some needle felting supplies at Googly Eyes! I LOVE felting, and am so happy to see you guys working on this. Linda scarffed up some of our items last night, but I can order more if you'll let me know what you need before noon, January 3rd. Call the shop at 972.257.2597. Here's the list:

    * Pen Style Needle Felting (NF) tool (qty 2) $14.49
    * NF Tool (qty 0 -- Linda got the last one!) $16.49
    * NF Needle Set, 4 needles (qty 1) $6.99

    * NF Needle Set, 4 needles (qty 1) $6.99

    I can also order wool roving. I'd love to develop and maintain a whole felting section in the shop, but I need to know that there is a continued interest out there! Let me know.
