Build a 150 gallon tote unit (flood and drain) at Texas Discovery Gardens

At this 2 hr (aprox.) Meetup we will be building out a complete 150 gallon flood/drain aquaponic unit, from start to finish, including tote preparation, plumbing, wiring, and gravel preparation using a new rock sifter design which makes gravel units much easier to construct. A new 1500 watt stainless steel thermostatic heating unit I developed will also be demonstrated and available for sale ($100) Fish feed, timers, plumbing, pumps and totes, all will be available at rock bottom prices for class members.

The TDG site will be the new hub of activity with several different types of systems demonstrated in their greenhouse, its an awesome space. Sign up quick, seating is limited and the class will be indoors so it will go on rain or shine. The class fee is $25, a real bargain for what you will learn. Part of the proceeds go to Texas Discovery Gardens, which is a GREAT organization.

At this Meetup we will also be choosing the next project. Several small systems in the area are now going strong so you'll get to hear more about them and help choose which one we focus on next. Those ready to build can apply for a meetup at THEIR site, all will be considered! The TDG greenhouse is easy to find and there's parking right next door, all inside the fenced Fair Park complex. See this map for the best way to get in to the greenhouse.

275 gallon IBC TOTES I will have a trailer load of IBC totes available, they are 275 gallon units which formerly had vegetable seed oil in them. No toxic chemicals!! If you need totes for aquaponics or rainwater collection, these are good ones. Only $90 each limit four at this time. If you need them delivered, that can be arranged for a VERY reasonable fee (email with address and quantity for that, usually its $10-$20 total).

If you want totes, please sign up QUICK. Last time I offered them they went rather fast and food-grade totes are getting more and more popular as people put in rainwater systems and aquaponic units. This type of container often sells for over $100! Hope to see you all there!

Had a great time and learned a ton about these systems. Dave is very knowledgeable and encouraging. We are looking forward to more meetups in the future. Thanks!

I would suggest this meet up to anyone like me, who is in the beginning phases of learning about Aquaponics. With the ideas and knowledge picked up here I feel that when I start putting a system together it will be more successful because of the meet up.

It was so helpful to see an actual system in the works and I really appreciate Dave's method of simplicity. I was re-inspired to get my own system up and going thanks to Dave's knowledge and experience. Thanks for answering all of our many questions!

Thank you Dave!!!!!

The closest entrance to the TDG greenhouse is at the intersection of Robert B Cullum Blvd and MLK Blvd. Once you get there go through the gate and turn right, follow the road to the right and after it goes around a sharp left you will see the greenhouse on your left. Parking is across the street from the greenhouse, our class will be inside. The map above has a marker on the greenhouse, contact me if you need more directions.

The totes are going fast! Only a few left in this batch. If you'd like to reserve one, send me a note. If you would like your tote cut up so its easier to transport and build the aquaponic unit, let me know. $20 and it's a done deal. Save yourself the hassle!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
