REBT/CBT in action: Addictive Behaviors

Dear Meetup members,

At our last meetup, I demonstrated the use of REBT/CBT with a volunteer.

I showed how I apply these principles with people every day in my psychology and coaching practice.

Thanks again to Maggie for volunteering!

One of our members suggested that I do a series of meetups devoted to demonstrating the use of REBT/CBT with specific problems that people face in life.  He suggested that sometimes seeing it in action helps more than just hearing about it.

So, for the next several meetups, I'm planning to spend some time demonstrating with volunteers.  If you have additional topics you'd like me to cover this year, please let me know.

In the mean time, if you struggle with the effects of an addicitve behavior and would like to volunteer, please let me know as soon as you can.  I have one volunteer who will work with me, but I'd like to have a couple of other people lined up in case there's time.

Thanks again for being awesome members & see you at our next meetup!

Came straight home and made my lists. Looked at it this morning, and omitted that first one of the day. At first I thought talking about a soda addiction would be light, but as I started seeing the parallels to other aspects of my life, I started feeling more and more naked. Thanks everyone for letting me be vulnerable in a safe place. And thanks Trish for sharing, so that I could learn from your experiences.

Brett, you can do this! Thank you for allowing us the privilege of watching and learning. Remember, self compassion. Talk to yourself like you would a friend and actively dispute those irrational thoughts!! Awesome job!

Brett - It was sooo interesting listening to your story of shame & disgust. Swap Pepsi with food and it was pretty much my story. The only difference that I could see is that I wear a badge (my excess weight) declaring my addiction. I too learned much from you and your not so light but vulnerable sharing.

Hi Pam. Looking forward to meeting you today. I wanted to update the questions/answers you requested prior to our meetup today but can't seem to find how to do it. It might be to late. Also, I had to copy/paste the URL into my browser as it was unclickable. When I did copy and paste into Internet Explorer 8, I rec'd an error. I was able to go to Http://therapynext.com but wasn't sure which area was yours.

I will ask you about today and be more than happy to provide feedback.
    Regards,
    Suzan
