I’d like to meet with the same five writers every week or every other week to workshop our completed feature screenplays. I’d like the critique and discussion to focus on character, language, dialogue, structure, pacing, theme, symbol, voice, plot, and process. The reading will happen offsite, and each reader will arrive at the meeting with others’ marked-up pages and with thoughtful notes for the other writers. This way, the workshop can be in-depth and discussion can begin immediately. Scripts should be complete, mostly proofed, properly formatted, and ready for rewrite. Members should be studied and knowledgeable regarding the rules of screenwriting, and come with clear expectations regarding what they want from the group. Each writer should prepare a list of questions for the readers to answer, and should be ready to receive honest, thoughtful feedback. The screenplays should be drama, romantic drama, romantic comedy, comedy, suspense, or thriller. Writers should email pages to each member of the group in advance of the meetup. If this sounds like a workshop you need and that might even bring you some joy, I’d love to hear from you. I need a group, and I’m clear about what kind I need. It might be hard to find the right mix of six or so personalities, writing levels, and interests. But, I want to try. I want to work with dedicated writers who are ready commit to regular participation and passionate, respectful dialogue about our work, over time. Anyone?
