Let's go to the Davis and see Lucy

Lucy opens this Friday but I think next Friday is better for me. Lucy is playing at the Davis and this is the Davis movie group after all. I am assuming it will still be there next week. We will plan for the 7:20 movie and go for 1/2 price appetizers at Bad Dogs after.

Up Date:  Movie still starts at 7:20 on Friday at the Davis.  Let's meet at 7:00 pm.  May be crowded so I may get my ticket early.  Bad Dog's still has their 1/2 price appetizers after 9.  So for very little money we will have a nice evening of show and chow.  See you all tomorrow.

    Ted Talk on the brain!
"The human brain is puzzling — it is curiously large given the size of our bodies, uses a tremendous amount of energy for its weight and has a bizarrely dense cerebral cortex. But: why? Neuroscientist Suzana Herculano-Houzel puts on her detective's cap and leads us through this mystery. By making "brain soup," she arrives at a startling conclusion."

Finally able to watch Suzana's video (after a number of attempts failed to load video).
Very good presentation of the relationship between body size/brain size/food intake, and why humans developed a large brain for its body, compared to other primates. Our ability to cook food, allowing large caloric intake at short mealtimes, allowed large brains with excess pre-frontal neurons available for other uses.
      Thanks for the link Linda.

Typical Luc Besson film (The Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita) with lots of well done action, some intriguing ideas explored, but a bit goofy towards the end. Best not to meditate too deeply on it, just enjoy the excellent acting of Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, and the supporting cast.
Good discussion and tasty food afterward with a fun & vibrant group.

Oh, I didn't know that. I can see the similarities in how the future (and the inner workings of the mind) are handled

Been a while since we have actually been at the Davis and I really enjoyed this movie. Some things to think about in the human condition

Sorry, Gail, but I won't be able to make it. I really have to finish some work tonight so I can give it to my web designer friend tomorrow, as planned. Have a great time!

I want to see this movie been hearing good things about it. Unless I don't get everything done for my trip I'll be there.

I already saw this, at the Davis. It was much better than I expected and certainly better that some of the critics said. Sci-Fi, imaginative, good story and well told.

I don't really care what the critics say. I just love to sit and watch Morgan Freeman.

It was the #1 movie this weekend.

hello! New to the group. Hope to hit a show soon. However not this one - this movie's trailers always bug me.... we don't use 10% of our brains. We use 100%. All neurons aren't firing at once or we'd have a seizure. lol.

MetaCritic has it at 61/100 (generally favorable reviews):
    www.metacritic.com/movie/lucy
And the Variety review is positive while noting "it’s a garish, trippy, wildly uneven and finally quite disarming piece of work...":

I'll try to make it on time as Friday nights are tough. It may be fun just to see how bad it really is!

Our friend Wesley posted an article on Facebook from The Atlantic that this was the dumbest movie ever made. Makes me want to see it more. ha ha

OMG I forgot about John Carter. Lucy will have to be REALLY bad to overtake John Carter as the worst movie ever.

Unforntunatly I will be packing for my trip with my sisters the next day. I'll look forward to everyone's comments.
