The Downtown DC Day Traders Message Board › May Meeting - Bollinger Bands
Thanks for the feedback on last week's meeting. Good stuff!
Our next meeting, we will host Bill Hider (see bio below), who will discuss his use of Bollinger Bands. I've seen this presentation and this is the first time I've been able to understand entry techniques off B/B. Great presentation. For those that have been asking for entry techniques, here's one for ya.
As always, suggestions and comments are always welcome.
Fulltime daytrader, Bill Hider, will present "Bollinger Bands for Traders".
Bill is the organizer of the DCTraders Meetup in Rockville: http://www.meetup.com/DCTraders/
A Trader since 2005, Bill has literally seen thousands of charts (daily and intraday) with the Bollinger Band indicator applied. For nearly every trade he contemplates or takes, whether day or swing, Bill performs his review/analysis using the Bollinger Band indicator. As well, Bill uses Bollinger Bands to help determine trade entries & exits on the intraday charts.
Bill's first mentor, Markay Latimer, early in her professional trading career, collaborated with John Bollinger and developed her own set of rules and setups for trading using the Bollinger Band indicator. Bill was formally trained on and has traded extensively using Markay's trading system using her Bollinger Band indicator.
Bill will present to you how he uses Bollinger Bands, day to day. Note that this will not be a presentation of academic situations, theoretical or hypothetical situations. In anticipation of this presentation, Bill will be using screen shots of some of his actual trades and trade setups. In addition, Bill will include certain "rules-of-thumb" that he has personally identified over the years.
At the end of the presentation, you will have a good appreciation for Bollinger Bands and whether you may want to incorporate Bollinger Bands into your own trading plan. You will also know, specifically, the Bollinger Band parameters and the associated moving average parameters Bill uses in his charts.
Here is a list of Bollinger Band terminology that you may or may not have heard about. At the end of Bill's presentation, you will understand what each means and how they work in trading:
Bollinger Band Squeeze Play
Bollinger Band Pinch Play
Bollinger Band Volatility Expansion
Bollinger Band Top (formerly called, Bollinger Band Double Top)
Bollinger Band Bottom (formerly called, Bollinger Band Double Bottom)
Walking the Band
