Dutch Photographic Meetup Group Newsletter (06Dec2012)

Dear Photographers,

Please find below the Dutch Photographic Meetup Group Newsletter

The topics:
THE 750 MEMBERS MARK
NEW DISCUSSION BOARDS
SUGGESTING / ORGANISING MEETUPS
PAID WORKSHOPS

*** THE 750 MEMBERS MARK ***

First, Wow! We just hit the ¾ of thousand member mark making us the largest photo club in The Netherlands.

*** NEW DISCUSSION BOARDS ***

I noticed that we are not using all the possibilities of the Meetup page to connect, exchange ideas or equipment. And to be honest, neither have I! That’s why I reorganized the Forum section that is located in the Discussion tab (message Board).

There are now 5 forums:
The Dutch Photography Meetup Group Discussion Forum: where you can chat about anything that is related to photography, express your ideas and opinions, give feedback etc…

Photography equipment: where you can exchange information, request an advice from other members or just share your own experience about equipment.

Tips and tricks: Some technical or artistic discovery you made and want to share with others ? That’s the place!

Member Ads: Do you want to sell your equipment? Are you seeking for a specific lens? Etc… Place your Ad here. Personal ads only.

Pro Ads: Are you offering your services as a business? Do you wish to interact about which type of workshops members would be interested in? Are you a model seeking for photographers or a photographer seeking for models? Feel free to post your needs and links here! For the little story, I actually need a photographer with a specific artistic touch for a project. As Iam prepared to pay for this, I placed my Ad there!

I moved the various existing posts to the relevant forums.

If there is a gap, please feel free to suggest a Forum topic!

*** SUGGESTING / ORGANISING MEETUPS ***

1/ There are quite a few Meetups in limbo because there are no date and Location, although many are interested to join. When suggesting or setting up a Meetup, please make sure to include these. If not, we will end up with good ideas but no action!

2/ If you are a member that joined such a Meetup, feel free to contact the organizer and give him a hand so to fix once and for all date and location. The organizer is usually the first person on the list of attendees. If not joinable, take things into your own hands, post that you’ll take care of it and add dates and location (all members should be able to edit). If there is a problem, please contact me.

3/ Those that have organized 2 successful non-commercial meetups or more, please contact me and indicate what meetups these were, to get your status updated to event organizer!

4/ Continue organizing Meetups, especially regionally: Those that have been set have been quite successful and allow to grow little photographic bubbles of photo-friends all around the country! You have a good idea for some photographic fun in your area? Don’t be shy, Set it up!

*** PAID WORKSHOPS ***

Maybe you noticed? Since recently some paid workshops have been appearing as Meetups. The spirit of our group is based on the free sharing of photographic experience with each other. I was a little reluctant at first, but I realize that maybe it could be an opportunity for the most serious amateurs among us to progress and maybe become themselves professional photographers. So I decided to observe. It seems that the extra value offered by these pro members is well received. Therefore, I concluded that paid Meetups by individual pro photographers sharing their expertise and experience is a good thing. And it offers you guys the option of getting deeper into photographic techniques.

So I think such offering has its place in our group. Note that the paid workshop offerings will be submitted to a screening process based on relevancy and previous experience of participants. Members that experienced already these paid workshops, please provide private feedback by emailing me so we can assess of the quality and value for money of the trainings provided.

Best of pictural inspirations to all of you!

Edouard
