Because there were so many who did not get a chance to take the tour, Nick Kelley, who is one of our members and the founder of Kaia Foods, has invited us to come on a second factory tour of Kaia Foods. We will also be having a pot luck there. Many of you know about Kaia as a producer of raw granolas and sprouted sunflower seeds (which I’ve recently seen in my grocery store). He has also generously offered to sell us the raw organic bulk items he buys nearly at cost, at those prices. So it’s a chance to meet people, try new recipes, and stock up on some raw food staples like sunflower seeds ($1/pound), walnuts ($5/pound), dates ($3/pound), cacao powder ($6/pound), etc. and save money.
I'm very excited about this meetup. The limit is 16, so RSVP soon. We are of course giving priority to the members who could not make the last one.
The cost of this meetup is $5 to defray the meetup website fee. You can pay that when you come, but Pay Pal will be available on the meetupsite for those who wish to pay through it.
Since this is a pot luck, we are asking everyone to bring their own utensils if they have them. If not, paper products will still be available.
There’s an interview with Nick about Kaia Foods and one of his recipes at
Let me know if you have any questions about this meetup.
About this meetup:
I’ve been on a raw food diet for a few years now. With the exception of last summer where I was on raw foods pretty much exclusively- my diet tends to be 80%-90 raw.
I know that there are those who want to embark on this diet, and those who have been doing it for awhile who can benefit from getting together once in a while for some practical reasons: lending support, sharing experience, recipes, and here’s the thing that motivated me to do this – creating a co-op to buy in enough bulk to reduce the cost of a raw food diet. If we get together we can reduce the cost- and help make a raw food lifestyle a viable choice.
