Learn the Ancient Art of Kefir Making from Heather Haxo Phillips

From: Darcy
Sent on: Wednesday, August 15, 2012 11:03 AM

This meetup will be September 26th at 6 p.m. Finnish Hall Berkeley see details below

We have an exciting new meetup planned! Heather is crazy for fermented food these days. She is making them all the time and would like to pass on her excitement for kefir and her expertise of kefir making to you.

Kefir is a fermented beverage that can boost your immune system, aid your digestion, and increase your vitality.   In this one-hour class you will learn

  • How to make both water kefir that makes a refreshing alternative to soda AND
  • How to make a creamy kefir you can use like yogurt.

Heather says these recipes are surprisingly simple to make and have dozens of uses.  (She will be sure to let us know at least a dozen or so).

So come learn all about it! And find out why so many claim Heather is one of the best people to learn about the nutritious aspects of raw food and how to incorporate more of it into our lives.  She keeps it simple.

The class will be at our new venue at the Finnish Hall in Berkeley (1970 Chestnut St. right off of University two blocks East of San Pablo).

As a sponsor of our meetup, she is also offering us a reduced price $15.  The venue fee is $5 so the cost of the meetup is $20.  For those who have purchased an annual meetup membership for $25- the cost is $15* (see details below).

PLUS for another treat we have Raw Daddy bringing back his famous cones! Many of you already know about how great they are- They are gourmet raw food in a fast food package of a tasty crispy flax cone.

They come in savory and sweet and we will give you the cones he will bring as we get closer- but for now he's more than likely to bring Thai, forest mushroom and polenta. Cones are $5 a piece and he will most likely bring Haystacks- the best raw chocolate dessert ever for $3 a piece.

Check out his website to learn about these treats HERE

About Heather

Heather is a graduate of Living Light Institute. She is a gifted teacher of not only raw food cuisine and the lifestyle, but also Iyengar yoga. In Heather’s classes you learn more than just how to put a basic recipe together, you learn how you can really live on a raw food diet in a way that really works. She has the tips and the recipes to make it work. If you come to this meetup- you are in for a real treat.

Here is a bit from her website:

After a curious experience in the deserts of the Holy Land, I learned about raw foods and their positive effects on the human body. I realized that I was not relying enough on whole and living foods as my main nutrition source. Right there in the desert—on New Year’s Day 2007—I made a commitment to whole foods as my main source of food.

There are so many benefits to eating whole foods in their natural state. I have written about some of them here. Raw foods, when lovingly and thoughtfully prepared, can taste BETTER than cooked foods. And you feel better afterwards!
