OPEN EAST MUSIC ARTS FESTIVAL @ OLYMPIC PARK 28TH JULY 2013

Come and enjoy a day out with the East London Meetup group

The Open East Festival is a special one off weekend event of music, food, arts, puppeteer & circus acts, storytellers, theatre and much more taking place in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 27th-28th July 2013 to celebrate the first anniversary of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games & official opening of the park.

 

 

The festival celebrations includes:-

  • A number of olympic games related performances
  • Live music performances and dj sets from almost every music genre, programmed on the riverbanks and parklands from the best london and international talent including live music stage acts from U-Roy, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Bomba Estéreo, Jupiter & Okwess International, Guy Barker & Big Band, Continental Drifts, LSO Discovery
  • Barbican Guildhall Drum Works - Beats, rhythms and free drumming workshops
  • Dance perfomances from the opening ceremony choreographer Kenrick Sandy & Boy Blue Entertainment.
  • Art Car Boot Fair, and Urban Bazaar, an art and design community, showcasing the best in UK made
  • East End mass bingo games around the Beau Belles Ice Cream Van
  • A floating Cinema
  • The Pandemonium Drummers and Xtreme Action BMX riders from the Olympic Opening Ceremony
  • Graeae present Ted Hughes' The Iron Man Directed by Jenny Sealey, the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony Co-Director, this classic modern fable features a colossal iron puppet taller than a double-decker bus.
  • The House of Fairy Tales who will be presenting their Travelling Art Circus (with Gavin Turk's Space Pyramid)
  • Children's Story Centre, Charlie Dark on a hip-hop, poetry puppet adventure, The Hare and The Tortoise Remixed, and Joey from the National Theatre production War Horse. Plus a host of things to see, make and do.
  • Sacrilege, the life-sized inflatable bouncy castle replica of Stonehenge by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller
  • End of festival spectacular finale, details of which are being kept under wraps.

Food & Drink

Scrumptious food on offer from the Real Food Festival, which will comprise over 70 stalls from London’s best street food sellers and producers including Big Apple Hot Dogs, Pizza Pilgrims, Horn OK Please, Mamma's Jerk Station, Community Kitchen, Hix Fish Dogs, Bhangra Burger with Dock Kitchen, Cafe Spice Namaste and Salt Yard Group.

Visitors will be able to sample beers from local breweries from within a 10 mile radius of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at The Ten Mile Beer Festival

MEETING POINT

2PM STRATFORD MAIN STATION GROUND FLOOR EXIT.

To make it easier for most the meeting point will be 2pm at Stratford main station (just outside the ground level exit between the cash machines/food kiosks/bottom of the steps to westfield centre entrance).

I will wait here for 10mins


We will then walk from the station to the olympic park main gate entrance - aiming to get there for 2:25PM (wait 5 minutes or so for other members who have made there own way to the park) and head into the park approx 2:30PM.

Transport - how to get there

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is 15 mins walk from Stratford Station serving DLR, Jubilee & Central Tube and National Rail

The route will be clearly marked from Stratford Station to the Open East Festival with staff on hand to guide you. Please note that it is approximately a 15 minutes walk from Stratford Station to the entrance to the Open East Festival which is situated in the North of the Park.
