What is a Progressive Christian? The easiest way to explain it is if your faith aligns with the 8 Points of Progressive Christianity as outlined at The Center for Progressive Christianity's web site [ http://www.tcpc.org ], then your faith may be that of a Progressive Christian. If you resonate with the writings of people like John Shelby Spong, Marcus Borg, Matthew Fox or Jim Burklo, you may be a Progressive Christian. Two examples of Progressive Christian churches are Christ Community Church in Spring Lake, MI [ http://www.christ-community.net ] and Brentwood Community Church in Springfield, MO [ http://www.brentwoodchristianchurch.com ].
We recognize Original Blessing over Original Sin, grace over condemnation, compassion over coercion, trust over fear, awe over guilt. We recognize God as a Divine Presence rather than a punitive parent. We view faith more as a journey than a destination. We understand that there is no one, final, absolutely true theology. We value sincere questions and various perspectives, and we understand this diversity to be a strength to learn from one another. We are committed to maintaining dignity and equality of all human beings. We believe in working toward reconciliation, social justice and peace among all people. We are open, affirming, and inclusive people who are followers of Jesus Christ. Our faith has to make sense both intellectually and spiritually.
If you are searching for a Progressive Christian group in the East Orlando / UCF / Oviedo area let us meet up and start one. A group to pray with, study with, worship with, doubt with, grow with, feast with and serve with. I'm a follower of Jesus Christ on this fascinating life journey, who has not found such a group, and I'd like to explore the possibilities and see where this leads to ..............
Let's talk and see if we can make a difference and make something happen.
