Hello and welcome to The Edinburgh Photography Group.
Our group is open to beginners and advanced photographers alike. Our meetups are all about learning and progressing your photography, but are above all fun, informal and relaxed.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We do digital and film. B&W and colour. Medium and large format photography. Landscapes, Seascapes, Special Effects, Long exposures, Studio and Street Photography. Photoshop and lightroom. (All very cool stuff).
100% REAL MEMBERS
Many Meetup groups claim to have hundreds of members but the reality is that 70-80% of the members are either, spammers, fake profiles or members that have lapsed. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are the only photography group where 100% of our members are real people. We verify all our members are real to ensure you get the best meetup experience.
QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
Other meetup groups cram 40-50 members into meetups which means you get very poor or no attention at all. We never do this. Our meetups are geared towards quality, attention and small numbers. This way you get the very best experience possible.
Other meetup are run by organisers who have little or very poor knowledge of photography. Our organisers have genuine expertise and recognition in their respective fields. It is demonstrated in the quality of their work and the many publications where they can be seen. Unlike other groups, we don't make claims we can't back up.
Stuart Low, our group leader is a professional Photoshop instructor and a specialist in sfx, sports and landscape photography. His experience spans 30 years, with a body of work published in many books, magazines and in awards such as the Landscape Photographer of the Year. He is also a part time university lecturer in digital multimedia.
Don Munro runs several very popular groups and has work published in many places. Derek too has work published in magazines such as Canon and has won national photography competitions.
NOT FOR PROFIT
Other groups charge large fees for meetups and are led by so called instructors with little or no experience. We never do this. The majority of our meetups are free but we do charge for meetups held on location, studio time and for weekend workshops. All charges are at cost price and all fees are either fed back into the group or used to subsidise materials and obtain group discounts. None of our income is peed up against a wall or put in our back pockets.
DISCOUNT SCHEMES AND MEMBER BENEFITS
Our organisers have great respect in the photographic industry and as such, we have discount schemes with several manufacturers. Our members benefit from discounts of 20% on equipment and accessories.
Members benefit from 20% discount on photo filters and we offer discounted photoshop training with Academy Class - the UK's leading Adobe Training Partner.
We have a range of equipment and studio lighting that is available to loan for projects.
NO CLIQUES AND POLITICS FREE
Just what it says on the tin.
Membership of our group requires a £5 annual fee. The fee covers running costs and the Paypal signup ensures you are a real person who has went through Paypal's security checks. The fee also deters fake profiles and spammers.
Whilst we encourage members with all levels of experience to join our group, it is only suitable for DSLR owners or similar. It is not suitable if you only own a compact camera.
We do hope you can join our group.
