"Getting The Best From Your Photos With Photoshop" workshop - Paid Members Only

  • April 5, 2014 · 1:30 PM

As digital photographers, our fun doesn’t end once we click the shutter. Thanks to tools like Photoshop, we can tweak, correct, enhance, and go further with our photos. This will be a 3 hour “hands on” workshop using Adobe Photoshop (CS5). The workshop will be a mix of ideas, demonstrations and “hands on” activities. If you have a laptop with Photoshop, you are welcome to follow along, or simply observe and take some notes.

Topics we will cover:

• Thinking “outside the camera” with your photos
• The advantage of shooting in RAW
• Opening/adjusting RAW files
• Working with layers
• Using layers to build a new image (with examples)
• Adjusting levels, hue/saturation, colour balance
• Unsharp masking and HDR filters

Workshop Requirements:
• Must have a good working knowledge of Photoshop (CS3 or higher)
• Have their own program (CS3 or higher) loaded on their laptop
• Please ensure that your computer is fully charged as power supply is limited, however, bring your charger and extension cord
• Please bring a mouse as the touch pad is not conducive to Photoshop
• Prior to the workshop participants will be emailed a link where they can download files so they can follow the presentations.

If you want to participate as an observer you can but please indicate that when you sign up.

Thank you Michael for the great workshop! Even though I only have Elements, I was still able to learn a lot of new things that I can't wait to try out. Tonight I practiced masking/ merging 2 photos for the first time and it was really cool and so fun! I will need a ton of practice to get it look good. I also want to thank you for showing your great photography work. I really loved your examples, really inspiring. I hope that you had fun teaching the class and maybe perhaps there might be a part 2 work shop :)

Hi All. I think I made a mistake signing up for this one. I am not familiar with CS3 or higher; sorry for any confusion and I hope someone sees this and can take my spot :( In my mind, I had it as more of a beginner workshop. I hope you have a great time and I will wait for a beginner one.

Hi Sian, thanks for letting us know. Please change your RSVP to "no" so that someone on the waiting list can attend.

Wow, made the list. I'll see if I can put PS on my laptop--may be too full and/or too slow. If so, I'll be part of the observer group. Do you need to know that in advance?

    April 4, 2014

    • Michael C.

Hi Lynne, having the files isn't a necessity, but it would make it easier to try some of the things I'll be explaining so you can see for yourself how they work.

Hi everyone, just checking in that people who want the workshop files have been able to download them from Dropbox:

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mna59kmxzmdvkje/3i_wfynaHV

I will have the files on a memory stick, but it's best that anyone who wants them has them loaded on their own systems.

    See you tomorrow!

Is it possible to drop by and pay my group dues that day even though I am not taking part of the event?

    March 29, 2014

    • Michael C.

I think that would be a question for Laurice or Kaye.

      March 29, 2014

  • Michael C.

Hi everyone, here is a Dropbox link for 2 PSD files and 5 JPGs that we can use in next Saturday's workshop.

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mna59kmxzmdvkje/3i_wfynaHV

The PSD are saved in CS5 format, but those of you with previous versions should be able to open them.

If you already have Dropbox, you'll be familiar with the download process. If not, when you get to the link, the two files will be there; click on them to display, then right-click and choose "Download".

Hi there, just sending a message that I will be there as an observer as my PS program is on my home computer and the program cannot be loaded on the ipad. But I always get things out of these workshops, so I will be there just to observe.

    March 29, 2014

  • Michael C.

Hi everyone. Next week, I'll post a link to a few PSD files for people to download in advance of the workshop. That way, people can follow along and try some of the techniques and ideas.

    • Kaye

      Great idea! Thank you Michael!
