Skyline Shots from the Arch Diocese

We have scheduled a meetup to shoot the evening skyline from the Arch Diocese, Thursday May 15th from 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm.  Thank you to Geoff for suggesting and hosting this meetup!

This meetup is restricted to 20 photographers only and you must be a PAID member.  Geoff will not be collecting any payments but you can pay online with PayPal.

If you RSVP yes, please ensure that you show up. If you cannot make it, remove your name from the RSVP list so that someone else can attend.

There is parking on the street. There is also a lot behind the building that we will be nearest on the west side of the property (go through the metal gate and stay on the road to the right). Geoff will be there early to try and direct people to the area we will be shooting from. Look for the 50ish bald guy.

And just to be clear for everyone, this is private property that we have been given permission to be on. The location offers a unique view of the downtown skyline. Unfortunately the forecast is not great so dress accordingly and we'll have some fun regardless.

Thanks for organizing this, Geoff. The weather wasn't all that bad and well worth it for the view.

Is the tripod a must? I have a FF camera and I could take pictures hand held at high ISOs. Im interested in going but my tripod is back home in Venezuela.

    • Kaye

Thank you :). Looks like you have an offer to borrow a tripod as well.

I drove in, I'll be there. It's a lot windier outside the city

Sadly I think I'll have to bow out as well :( 60% chance of rain and getting pretty windy out there. Dislike this time of year as it's so unpredictable.

    May 15, 2014

    • Allan S.

Sorry for the short notice I was really hoping it might clear up.

      May 15, 2014

  • Loretta

OK, I'm going to bow out. Too windy and starting to spit rain...hopefully someone else can benefit.

    May 15, 2014

    • Geoff S.

Don't blame you Loretta. We can pick the date but not the weather. I'm sure there will be others bowing out as well. Take care.

I'll be a bit late tonight, about 8:45, but I'm planning on being there :-)

    May 15, 2014

If it is raining tonight I won't come cuz I don't have rain gear for camera. Hoping for no rain @ 8 pm!

    May 15, 2014

    • Kaye

I'm crossing my fingers for no rain as well. This weather is so unpredictable.

Heavy tripod also a good idea given the wind :-)

      May 15, 2014

    looking forward to it

had to back out as I am going to be getting off a plane an hour later than I thought and wont have the energy to make it there and stay awake...enjoy!

Just a quick reminder to everyone, don't forget a tripod. Also good idea to bring a shutter release, maybe a snack or refreshment, flashlight and maybe even a portable chair. I am going to try and get over there before the Meetup to get a sense of the lay of the land.

Geoff are we outside? this is such a cool meetup...do we have stairs to walk that would be a downfall for me with my ripped knee ...could do it but not carrying a chair and all the equipment

      May 13, 2014

    • Geoff S.

There are no stairs. It is however about a one block walk if you park on the main street.

I feel too much of a novice to attend, although I have everything except a flashlight...:) I bought new camera new lenses filters and tripod but to date have not used once. Is there an opportunity to learn how to use my equipment? At this time it's really over my head.

Jean: Most of our members are really great and don't mind helping or giving advice if asked nicely. However, general meetups are not really meant as a tutorial session, as we want all our members to enjoy the outing. We do sometimes hold workshops (with a small fee) where our more advanced members will help teach a photography skill. Keep an eye out for those sessions and RSVP quick if you are interested as spots usually fill up quick.

I totally get that...so I will patiently wait for either a tutor to take me on or a class. I'd prefer a tutor that would zero in on my equipment, but class good too. :) Thanks Kaye.

I wish I could attend, but it's too late on a school night for me. I sent out an email to all the lucky attendees. Please read it carefully. Geoff is in charge, please be respectful of all members and the location, and if you are a no-show, you will not be allowed to RSVP in future meetups where there are limited space. Happy Shooting and we all look forward to seeing your photos!

Sure wish I was there for some of these photo ops, but I am out of the province for the next couple of months. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of all of them..Happy Photography!
