1st Shutter-Bugs General Meeting

  • November 16, 2012 · 7:00 PM

When we started this Edmonton Shutter-Bugs photography group in November of 2011 we never expected the response that we received.

It has been a very busy, creative, fun and challenging year. With help from various members (Mario, Rick, Curtis, Loretta, and Lynne) who have all hosted at least one event for the club we believe that we have had a very successful year.

The organzers decided to hold a general meeting to discuss the following:
• events of the past year
• ideas for the next year
• monthly challenges
• membership and membership fees
• financial report of the club.

Note: Membership fees will be accepted at the meeting for the 2013 year.

It is your club and the more you take an active role the more activities can be scheduled.

There will also be recognition of the winner’s gallery and they should be in attendance to receive their recognition.  The winner of the November challenge has to be in attendance to win as it will be determined by a draw.  If you are not there you cannot win.

Hope to see you there

I might have said this before but just in case, here it goes again: THANK YOU guys, for all the great work! I have enjoyed being a part of this group and I can see the growth since I became a member a while back. But most of all, thank you for gathering such a great bunch of people, there's such a great camaraderie, respect and sense of humor in this group and I'd like to point out that the organizers have a great deal to do with the great spirit of this group as you all are gently but firmly setting those boundaries and good examples. I am looking forward to this new year of fun challenges, thank you again guys!

I 100% agree with Marta's comment. It's the people that make this group but the quality of the leadership is a huge factor.

I just want say thank you to all who attended our first annual meeting for the club. There was lots of discussion and some great ideas put forth. Congratulations go to Bruce Raynor for placing 1st and Imran Hayat for 2nd place. in the voting categories of the monthly challenges. The prizes were $125.00 and $75.00 London Drugs gift certificate respectively. Mike Saramaga also won a $50.00 London Drugs gift certificate which was a draw prize from the entries for the October challenge "Give us Your Best Shot". His was the first name drawn and lucky enough he was in attendance which was a requirement in order to win.

I would also like to thank the organizing team for a very productive and creative year. It has been a pleasure working with each of you.

I would also like to congratulate Charlie and Kim on their engagement and wish them all the best in the future.

Looking forward to 2012 and hope to see you in the new year :)

Often in photography, it is interpretational so we need to be open minded about being respectful that another's interpretation is their own & may not be right or wrong, just theirs from where they are in that time. I think this is a very great group that way. I want critiques as I feel this is the only way we will be better in our art.

just a question...i'll be coming from U. of A. Since i commute there by LRT, I won't have my car. Is there anywhere to get there by using light rail or buses? Thanks.

    November 10, 2012

    • Laurice B.

I am sure that there is city busses that can used but maybe someone can offer to pick you up at an LRT station and drop you off. I will be leaving early to setup

Well there was an agenda until my computer crashed before I went to Toronton. Bought one before I left and I just tried to set it up. I have to take it back as it will not reconized some keyboard strokes. Tried a different keyboard with no luck. Boy is this fustrating. If I can get a computer up and running I will put an agenda together but I suspect the agenda will be handed out at the meeting. We will be asking for additional agenda items.

Thanks Ruth, but my hard drive crashed. I could replace the hard drive or buy and other computer. I opted to buy another computer as mine is a number of years old. I picked up an HP at costco but there is an issue with recognizing some of the key board strokes so it is going back this morning and I will be shopping today. Hopefully I will have a computer up and running by the end of the weekend. I was able to back up most of my personal material on an external so with a little luck everything will be there. I do know that I lost my calendar and outlook contacts but that can be rebuilt.

Thanks but I have already wiped the dard drive doing diagnostics. I have some bad clusters on the drive that could not be isolated so it's done, done. Prior to wiping I was able to move most, if not all of my data to an external drive so I think I should be ok.
