Making the Break from Employee to Entrepreneur with Steve Sammartino

  • August 27, 2014 · 6:30 PM

On August 27, EC will be hearing from one of Australia's most renowned Entrepreneurs, Steve Sammartino. Steve is the founder of rentoid.com, runs the world's most popular startup/entrepreneur blog, co-invented the first life size lego car run solely on air and now author of the new book, The Great Fragmentation. Steve has a background in the corporate world however after years of working in marketing for some of the world's largest companies, he made the break to become a full time Entrepreneur. On the night he will be sharing about his journey of stepping away from the corporate world and how it was a game changer for him.

Steve is without a doubt one of the best and most sought after speakers in Australia. Due to his popularity, this event will sell out so RSVP now to grab a seat.

Key points about Steve:

Steve Sammartino is a business person (Marketing) - a rare kind who has worked in the largest of companies, including the world’s biggest advertising agency and the world’s biggest Consumer Goods Company (both at Director level) as well as startups he’s founded and sold.

He’s also done a lot of crazy projects including putting a lego space shuttle into actual earth orbit, and is a Director at Australia's first new car company in over thirty years (www.tomcar.com.au).

He lectures part time at Melbourne University, and recently got a book deal with Wiley, discussing the digital revolution and what it means for business.

Steve is involved in the venture capital industry and invests in business & new technology. His blog also has over 30,000 readers a month (Startup Blog) and is the biggest in its category. It’s been in Australia's top 10 the past 5 years.

He helped with the creation of a full sized car with an engine made of lego and an engine which runs on air – it was crowdfunded via twitter.

Hi people looking forward to this event and meeting great people. I am keen to talk to anybody in app development if anybody is interested. I had an app developed at my last employer and they have dropped it, even though it has received international awards, as I am not there to push it forward. Looking to build it again :)

Wonderful energy from the crowd - and inspiring talk from Steve . The "woodchips" comment resonated with me. Did any else have a summary takeaway from Steve's talk ?

Went home with a renewed sense of purpose and a head spinning with ideas. Just stopped short of waking my 14 year old daughter to tell her I've just found the ideal career for her - Entrepreneur. Instead, told her this morning.
