This has a good summary...

I don't usually send you political things but this one could affect our group and MeetUp in general.

If you haven't heard of the proposed bills SOPA or PIPA, please learn about them right now. Then take action.

Visit google, or wikipedia to learn more...of course you will find them blocked but you'll still be able to take action.

Here is what you need to understand. If these bills become law, something as simple as this month's posting of song lyrics and the photo for Ghetto Alchemy could without any legal recourse could shut down all of MeetUp - not for a day but for a very long time. It could happen with a simple protest from say a competing website, without any court filings or proof. Just a complaint.

If you like the freedom that the internet has given you to connect with people, learn about anything that strikes your fancy, share your thoughts and interests, share art, watch movies or television or funny cat videos, and stay in touch with family and friends then you must take action right now.

Don't delay take action now, while you can still voice your opinion to your representatives.
