A Walk in the Woods (in the literal not literary sense)

  • Sep 26, 2010 · 3:00 PM
  • Blanton St Trail Head

In keeping with the theme of this month's book, A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, we'll do a real walk in the woods as a warm-up for book discussion. I will be traveling and unable to make it but Shannon will lead the hike and book discussion. I'm posting the hike and book discussion as separate events for people who can only attend one and not the other but of course it will be a fun day for people to do both.

We'll hike South Eugene's Ridgeline Trail from Blanton Rd. Trailhead to the Willamette St. Trailhead and back. This is a relatively easy 3.6 miles on well-defined trails. For an overview map, check here: http://www.eugene-or....
For a more specific map of this section of the trail check here: http://www.eugene-or....

This Google map shows a street view of the trailhead parking lot:

Please bring water and clothing appropriate for changing weather. This trail does have some poison oak: http://en.wikipedia.o.... If you don't know what it looks like, please ask another member of the group.

This is always a beautiful trail to take. I'm about to post a couple of photos of a nifty makeshift branch-hut-teepee-thing that's along the trail

Thank you, Shannon! I think I'd better pass then. If we were to walk slower than that I'd not be able to be home by 5. I really wish I could.

It really depends upon the pace of the people who decide to go on this walk, but I would think that given the length of 3.6 miles, it should take about 1.5 hours.

Anyone know how long, time wise, this hike will take? I have to be home in N. Eugene by 5 pm, but would like to do the hike if possible.
