November Philosophical Discussion Group

Please try to be on time for the meeting.  I do understand that sometimes things happen that are not in our control, but I find it very distracting when people come in late and I feel it tends to interrupt the flow of discussion.  If you're going to be late, please post here if you can so that we know to expect someone to come in late.

This is a recurring meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. These discussions are limited in size because I want just one group discussion rather than several smaller discussions.

We have free form philosophical discussions during these meetings.  I encourage people to bring a topic if they have something they wish to discuss.

If you are on the waiting list for the discussion, please check the meetup site the afternoon of the meeting and see if you have moved up to the attending list since people often cancel at the last minute.

Thank you all for your insightful input to the discussions.  I truly enjoy them.

YAY! That was fun. I will make sure to bring some good stuff next month as well. Nothing history oriented, or I'll get attacked on by Joe! :p just kidding.

Thanks to everyone for showing up and having a good discussion. Elizabeth is in the batter's box for bringing a topic to the December meeting.

Well jim I have the DVD I thought I loaned you in front of me. So if you're wondering about the empty case I can get the movie to you some time in the next week or at the next meeting. Let me know.

I am really sorry, but I'm not going to be able to make it tonight. Thanks to Joseph for hosting and I hope to see you next month. And hopefully next year will be a bit less hectic and I can be there more regularly!!!

Sorry, won't attend tonight. Buried in work, teaching, school, family--something has to give--always the fun stuff! I will try again next month.

Everyone remember to use visitor parking if its available. Its easier to use the lot behind St Vinnie's. Just walk west from there and look for the Apple Orchard sign. (Not an apple tree in the place) I'll have the lights on and the front door open.

I have some kind of sickness so I'm canceling but if I feel better and spots are still open there's a small chance I can make it since this is very close to my house:)

I really want to be a member of this once a month discussion... but have a conflict as the Mossback Volkssport club also meets on the third Weds. So maybe I can participate in the book of the month club starting December. Do you know what the Dec. book is yet? Thanks!

Hi Alix... Chad hosts the book club meetings so I don't know what the next one is. He kindly allows me to use his group to host the philosophical discussions but we don't coordinate anything. Sorry!

If you take a left on Lone Oak LP you will see an unpaved parking lot on the left side of the road that we use for overflow parking. Its right behind St. Vincent DePaul. The community center is about 150 west of there.

Thanks, Joseph! I've changed the info for the meeting. If for some reason they are not at that address let me know. I put Apple Orchard Apartments in the meetup system and that's what it came up with.

Rach, I've put the November meeting down on the calendar for the Apple orchard community room. (2670 Edgewood Drive) but still haven't heard from the Apartment Manager for official confirmation. I'll try again on Monday.

Another place is the private upstairs rooms at the campus Glenwwod restaurant. Free, no required number of people. But I think it would only be proper to use it if people were to order things, so I'm not sure it's appropriate.(oooh, is that a philosophical or ethical question? :)
I use it for another group I'm in but everyone orders food, so I just don't know. Rach, message me if you want to know more.

How about calling Eugene Wine cellers ?

Lou's suggestion is a good one.

We could use the community Room here at Apple Orchard Apartments for no charge. It's off River Road near Fred Meyer.

Market of Choice is not available because they use the room for overflow storage near the holidays. That may be just as well since we don't have the 12 they require RSVPd. Anyone have suggestions of where else to meet? Another group I'm in has been meeting at Turtles at the large table near the wine racks--the noise level isn't perfect, but it's not too bad. I think we can maybe keep that as a possibility but I would love to hear other ideas, so please speak up!

Rach - Not sure I have this right (my memory/knowledge of Eugene still seems to be limited, but I *think* it's the Rogue Ale House (they have/had trivia there - I seem to remember it being around 8th to around 10th street?) they have a downstairs that has a nice size conference table - one of the environmental meetups had a meeting there - long ago - and their requirements and timeline to reserve/use it seemed pretty minimal - one or two people had something to eat and another few had something to drink - but was not req., I don't think. It isn't a separate room really, but there's no place else down there to sit, IIRC, so it might as well be. 'twould be very quiet, almost as good as Market of Choice, I think. The problem I recall - again IIRC - is that calling them and having someone pick up the phone and be knowledgeable about the downstairs reservation is luck of the draw, but doable. If we picked a date that was good with all and call it might work
