Hey everyone --
Another Meet-up group (who's organizer, Sandy, is a member of FGG) has plans to ride the Nashua River Trail Trail next weekend as an adult/teen cycling event. They're planning to meet at 11am and Sandy will be "event host" -- there are currently 6 people attending.
Here's what her post has to say about the event:Join us for an easy 22 round trip mile bike ride on the Nashua River Rail Trail where we can experience early Fall foliage and the cooler air of the season. We did an event here in July, which I was unable to attend, so I am looking forward to exploring a trail I've never been on before.
About the Nashua River Rail Trail
The Nashua River Rail Trail is a former railroad right of way that travels 11 miles through the towns of Ayer, Groton, Pepperell and Dunstable. The trail offers a 10-foot wide paved surface for the entire length. The entire trail is open to pedestrians, bicyclists, inline skaters, wheelchairs, and cross-country skiers.
This rail trail is well paved, flat, and has very few road crossings. The trail is wide enough and the path traffic lite enough to enjoy a good conversation with a fellow rider. There are bathrooms at the trail head where we'll meet. Please be sure to bring your water bottle, sun screen, etc... bike and helmet.
You can view a map of the route here
Pack your lunch or plan on joining us for lunch/drinks after the ride at a local establishment.
Directions to the trailhead are below.
To reach the Ayer trailhead, take Interstate 495 to Exit 29 and head west on State Route 2 to Exit 38B for State Route 111 north. From the rotary, continue on 111 north through Ayer Center and the downtown shopping district till you see the trail from the road (still 111 north). For trailhead parking, take the first right past the trail, followed by another right into the lot.
