Bethany,
?
The club I belong to in East Prov. does have spinning classes.? I can check into it either today but definitely tomorrow and ask about non-members taking part.? Be glad to do it.
?
Insofar as the AMC.? It was well worth it for me.? I really enjoy meeting new people who share my interests.? They outings are?very sociable and I eat that up!??You don't have to join to do their hikes and so forth.??A few years ago, I was looking for a sociable kind of group to bike with.??I heard that the AMC was doing Saturday rides so I figured I give it a shot.? I really liked it and they liked me.? The ride leaders suggested that I join and?lead rides because I was so good with everyone of all skill levels.? I joined and am so glad I did.? I just love the social aspect.? So you see, you don't have to be a member.
?
The volleyball sounds like fun.? I hope you can revive things.? :))
?
Thanks so much,
?
Tom???

Hey Tom -

These are great ideas. I was thinking about contacting my local YMCA to see if they'd give us a price break on spinning classes -- it'd be great to get a class for $10/non-members to drop-in if they have the time! Does your health club in E. Providence do anything similar?

As for the AMC hikes, I'd personally love to start doing some hiking with that group (I've gotten their newsletters for a while now and debated shelling out the $40+ to join). Is there a website or something we can link to on the meet-up group site?

And as for volleyball, funny you should send that suggestion. I had another member write me about the co-ed league here at the Ahern middle school (Foxboro) -- maybe we could get our own team going?

Thanks!!
Bethany

Hi Bethany,
?
I read your email and I would love to do some things different since we can't ride.? I'm belong to a health club in East Providence and they have spinning classes!? I am also going to start hiking with the AMC (Appelahian Mountain Club).? Local hikes I'm talking about.....4-5 mile stuff.? ?I cycle with them during the summer.? Maybe it's possible to get a few folks together and play volleyball or something.? If a few are interested, maybe kick around on the racquetball courts.?
?
Is any of this any good?
?
Thanks,
?

Hey everyone -

You all joined this meet-up group because of a mutual love/like for biking but trying to coax yourself into the saddle when it's single-digit temperatures outside with the wind chill and there's no shoulder after the snow is plowed...well, it's hard.

Some of us can brave the elements and still get in a ride or two but it's safe to assume that the vast majority simply won't...or can't.

I do not want to stop the meet-up group so I'm looking to you all (~115 members at last count) to make some suggestions.

Have a kick-butt spinning class you'd like to suggest? Post it.
Want to try snowshoeing and have some ideas? Post them.
Craving some indoor rock climbing classes? You get the idea, post it.

For the next few months I will be switching up the meet-ups to include some physical activities outside of the 'grind and grub' -- I'll understand if this isn't your 'cup of tea' and we lose some members but I hope you'll all weather the change (pun totally intended) and know that in the spring, we're back in the cycling business.

New Year's resolutions are about to kick into gear and I'm sure most of us have some variation of "get healthy/lose weight/increase activity level" so get those suggestions on the site. If you're having problems posting to the site and would like to send the information to me directly so I can post, email me at [address removed].

Hope everyone had a great holiday and look forward to seeing you all in 2010, if not before :-)

Cheers,
Bethany
