Get off the couch and get moving! Meet other people like yourself who are just now getting out there to exercise. Meet local friends and help one another stay motivated! Join us in walking at the park or wetlands, easy cycling along the shore, short hikes in the hills, or playful kayaking in the harbor. Perhaps you'll even find a workout/gym partner!
This group is for people new to exercising or just getting back to exercise after a lapse. We may not have rock-hard bodies, but we do have lots of fun. The outdoor activities are at a not-too-difficult level. No one gets left behind.
The secret to health and fitness is getting light exercise *consistently*, that is, about 30 to 60 minutes of exercise, about 5 times a week. The exercise doesn't have to be strenuous. In fact, you should simple raise your heartbeat only slightly, and should still be able to converse while exercising. You can accomplish by walking briskly, or cycling steadily. We don't race; we don't run marathons, and we don't compete with one another. The object is to get fit while having FUN!
Our walks are usually about one hour to one hour and 30 minutes in duration. We walk at a steady pace, not a stroll, but not racing, either. The hikes are in Orange County's wilderness parks, and last about 2 to 3 hours. Bike rides cover a distance of 10 to 25 miles. Each person pedals at their own pace, and chooses the distance he or she wants to go. There are usually two groups of riders: a slower group doing a shorter distance, and a faster group doing a longer distance.
Sometimes we simply engage in some sort of outdoor activity that may not be that much exercise, but is fun nevertheless. Activities include horseback riding, attending outdoor festivals, or simply exploring a different neighborhood. If you have a suggestion, please share it. And don't forget to bring your camera. We love it when members post photos of our events in the group's photo album!
