Regular Coffee Shop Meetup

  • Needs a date

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Wanted to suggest we may want to try a monthly meeting, one weekend a month, at a coffee shop or similar establishment in the area. Spent an hour or two together, drink, eat, and geek out!

Cafe Mossant, 1400 El Camino Real Belmont, CA 94002, would be a good location also.

I'm up for that, Taylor. Sounds good. So yeah, just have to pick a day now. Oh, and a host. Now that the school year has started, our busy teenaged babysitter isn't as available. So, we would try to be there, but it's hard to say for sure. Anybody want to stake out a table and look friendly?

There's a great place by the Redwood City Caltrain called the Groove with plenty of space and good coffee. We should just pick a day and run with it.

Looks like there's revived interest in this!

Not sure I can. AODSF is going to take up one of my weekends so I want to keep one free. We'll see.

So, Noah and I will be out of town for a week and two weekends in February, so either we pick, say, Sunday Feb. 6 or Sunday Feb. 27 or else someone else hosts? Any votes on that? Would love to put it up on the calendar. :) Also, suggestions on a location?

Sounds like the last meetup went well - maybe we toss out another time and try another venue?

I saw you suggested Marvin Gardens might be worth saving - good point. I think it's probably a good idea to save it until March/April.

Sounds good--here goes. Posting in a moment, and going with Saturday....Thanks for all of your ideas, Steve. :)

A suggestion then: let's do Marvin Gardens this month, and since the who meetup is the 8th, let's try this for lunch the 15th OR 16th. That'll also give everyone a chance to discuss the next place to meet!

    Hi Stacy,
Yes, parking can be tricky there, as it doesn't have it's own parking lot. Just street parking in front of and down the street. Carpooling from another location close by might be an idea if we get a lot of people going.

I think rotating locations might be fun, and would give others a chance to pick according to convenience or food preferences. Wayne, do you know about the parking situation at Marvin Gardens? We've never actually been there, but some friends spoke highly of it.

Noah, Good call! Marvin Gardens has good beer and good burgers! Do they still have Horseshoes there? That would be fun. Depending on my work sched I may be coming down from Solano Co and could stop on the way and pick up those who need rides.

Sounds fine. I drive also so parking is an issue I guess.

    December 27, 2010

  • Steven S.

That looks pretty neat - but one question, how's parking? It's location sounds like it might be a bit of a pain for those who drive. Otherwise I like this - maybe we can do a monthly meetup that rotates through locations on weekends!

Just to throw out an idea, how about meeting at Marvin Gardens in Belmont on an upcoming Saturday afternoon? It is just a block away from CalTrain, has a good atmosphere for geeky conversations and game playing, and has a full menu. If it doesn't seem like the right place, we can move to a different place at the next meetup.

I'd prefer weekends. I'd also prefer a site close to the BART line, if possible. If not, close to Lightrail. (I'm coming in from the N side of the East Bay)

    December 27, 2010

  • Steven S.

Hmmm, another question arises - would this be best on a weekend? Weekday? I'm a bit torn.

    December 26, 2010

  • Steven S.

Hmmm, sounds like this is shaping up. So do we have any suggestions for times and locations? I figure after the new years, of course!

I can bring "apples to apples" and we can play in the coffee shop. Maybe I will just bring it along and see what the mood of the group is :)

I agree on locations being the big issue. I figured we could either pick one strategic location, or rotate them. Some suggestions/observations:
    * Belmont starbucks is nice and located near other things.
    * San Carlos has two decent starbucks - one on El Camino near the train station, another near a Best Buy and other fun stuff.
    * Redwood city's mall by the train station is nice, but the Starbucks is small.
    * Hillsdale Mall's is small.
    * Consider a coffee shop in a bookstore?

Noah and I love this idea! I guess location will be the big question for us to answer? Thanks, Steve!
