Computer games, I guess? Or science fiction/fantasy, but more books than movies/TV. I majored in physics and math, which are pretty geeky (but awesome), and work as (more or less) a programmer. I'm interested in indie computer game development, although I'm not motivated enough (so far!) to make any progress on projects of my own. It's fun to think about, though! (I want to make an updated fantasy version of Oregon Trail, featuring goblins being driven out of a modernizing fantasy kingdom, forced to pack up all their belongings in Conestoga wagons and trek to a goblin reservation thousands of miles away, beset by natural and unnatural adversaries . . . especially dysentery.) I like talking about physics, too. I'm a big indie music fan, which I guess isn't "geeky" exactly, but there seems like a lot of crossover interest.
TV: Firefly (really, anything Joss Whedon's ever made, but Firefly's my all-time favorite show), Arrested Development (it totally counts, there were lightsabers and a jetpack), Avatar: The Last Airbender, Game of Thrones, Mythbusters on occasion Movies: Serenity, Moon, Equilibrium, Primer, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Blade Runner, etc.
Computer: Fallout (1, 2, and New Vegas), Deus Ex, Arcanum, Civilization II and IV, Europa Universalis III, Dungeons and Dragon Online (well, for a while, but I fail at willpower . . . so I quit), Oregon Trail Not computer: Go (I'm really bad, though), Risk, a little Settlers of Catan (I've never really played many board games, but I'm interested to try some)
Not at the moment!
Hello! I'm new to the Bay Area, and don't know many people here. Looking to make some new friends and have fun with interesting people. I've always sort of hid my geeky side, but the idea of this group is intriguing. Hope to see you all soon!
