  • This location is no longer available

We are adding another Book Club this month...by popular demand!

The books for June are:

Norse Code by Greg Van Eekhort
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Read one or both books, whatever you have time for. We will discuss the two selections and then make new recommendations. Bring snacks and drinks to share.

How do I make recommendations? Go to the link below.

http://www.meetup.com/The-Geek-Club-South-Bay/messages/boards/thread/34447992

Already read books are on the discussion board under this link.http://www.meetup.com/The-Geek-Club-South-Bay/messages/boards/thread/19709532/0/#[masked]

We also have a group at goodreads.com:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/72507-scifi-fantasy-book-club-south-bay

Make a profile and join, so we have a place to discuss the selections besides on the site.

If you are coming from Lawrence and Oakmead please turn left into the first gate you come across to the complex. If you are coming from other way down Lakeside turn right into the last gate. The code to the gate is 0275 and it will ring my phone. All spots are guest parking unless it is in a gated garage. There is plenty of parking. There are signs to guide the way after that. Call[masked] if you have any issues.

I read the sequel to Name of the Wind. I was so disappointed! I thought this was finally an author who had an inkling of what it was like to court a woman. Not so. Kvothe played things pretty well in the first book, sometimes patience can be a powerful tool when going after a woman used to being chased, but in the second book he would have lost her. It descended straight into this friendzoned fantasy.

I would have typed more, but I couldn't see what I was typing past the second sentence.

It had its high points, but it was mostly a long winded male power fantasy in the end after all. I was hoping for more.

Sorry to back out last minute, but I'm having car issues. Hope to make it to the next meet.

I accidentally ordered two copies of The Name of the Wind and if anybody wants a paperback version I am selling one for six dollars.

I have to pick my dad up from the airport... I'll try to swing by late if that's ok.
