Evil League of Evil Villian's Ball

  • Oct 2, 2010 · 4:00 PM
  • This location is no longer available

Dr. Horrible says that a villian's power is all in his laugh... but everyone truly knows it's in his duds and the way he cuts a groove on the dance floor
cool. The Evil League of Evil apparently has its headquarters right here in the Bay Area, and they are throwing a huge - and evil - ball!! We'll all meet at my house in costume at 4pm, and watch Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog (yes, it's even more amazing than it sounds
biggrin) to get in the mood. From there we'll carpool up to Alameda and get our collective groove on in a way that only that only supervillians can. Costumes can be real or fictional villians, modern evening dress or basic black. The band playing will be Avalon rising, a Celtic Fusion Rock band, who will be playing everything from waltzes to tangos to jigs to swing. There will be a brief lesson at the beginning of the night, so we can start out on the right foot [HAAA dancing pun!! Ok, I'll shut up now
confused] For more info, go to:
http://www.peers.org/... .. And yes, others have informed me that the website looks like it was constructed on the WYSIWYG editor of geocities circa 1999.... but the ball was posted on Whedonesque!! So it is legit!! XD

Such an amazing and fun event! Loved seeing all the costumes!

I've uploaded as many pictures as I could find of the Evil League of Evil Ball (and of our dinner beforehand). Apologies all around that they're not better pictures. Most of them were very out-of-focus. I should really remember to take a real camera next time, instead of relying on my cell phone camera!

I truly enjoyed watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog with others who appreciated it as well. It was fun seeing everyone's costumes. I was sorry to have left early, since it sounds like the sing-along part would have been a blast. We definitely need dance lessons if we ever do this again!

I wish we'd made it in time for the lesson, because we ended up just kind of galloping around during all of the waltzes... but the sing-a-long was pretty epic XD

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! And out of town friend has stopped by for the night, rendering me housebound. I am the saddest of sads. I demand many pictures :(

Oh and we definitely need to designate a picture taker... who is not me... because I NEVER remember to take pictures T_T Any volunteers???

Hi Kat! I imagine there will be a few different carpools/people you can ride up with ^_^ If nothing else you can definitely ride with us

Eating out sounds good to me too.

Anyone willing to give me a ride up to San Mateo? I just found out my car is not registered and I can probably risk the drive to Lexi's but I don't think I will take her as far as San Mateo.

I'm up for eating out or something. Though I'm not sure if I'll be able to do so while in costume, since my crazy dress may not let me properly sit in a chair... I might actually have to quickly assemble my costume when we arrive in San Mateo since I may also not be able to wear it in the car XD

We're probably going to need to drive there ourselves, separately - in case we have to get back sooner (like if one of the kids has tied the babysitter to a chair and is trying to set things on fire). But we'd love to stop by Lexi's first to watch Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog ahead of time before heading over to the ball. Anyone work out what we're doing for dinner yet?

    September 30, 2010

  • Lexi R.

I was thinking about that this morning... Since the ball is in San Mateo, which is only going to take about 45 minutes to drive to, if that, we could maybe get something to eat before or after driving there? It could be really fun to go out to eat somewhere in costume XD Otherwise, we could do some sort of potluck at my place beforehand

Oh yeah, and what about dinner? I know it says potluck on the website but I am skeptical about the amount of food that will be provided.

So. Coordination. Show up at Lexi's in costume, or bring them and change after Dr. Horrible's? And it looks like we can fit everyone in two cars unless we get a lot more people.

If I can get all my moving nonsense in gear in time to put together a costume, I was thinking of going as Pandora, a reluctant villain of sorts. Or I could just roll on the floor of a butcher shop and be Medea.

Naw I think it will be fine... Erik and I will be wearing mens' tightie whities over black pants, so.... if we're underdressed we'll be underdressed together XD

    not too under dressed?

Ooooh Livewire could be really cool :-D And your hair is short enough that you could totally get it to stand up and be blue like hers with enough hair product !! :-D

Okay so the "formal" thing has me caught between 2 costumes: Livewire (not formal) http://www.comicvine.com/livewire/29-4678/ or Just wearing a kinda gothic gown that is more formal. I need a lil input to help me decide :S thanx

    Erik and I are going as these guys from Astrofighter Sunred (anime).... we tend to pick obscure costumes that noone will ever recognize... not sure way ^_^;

So has everyone figured out their costumes?

    September 25, 2010

  • Amy R.

I didn't see this in the description before (possible I just suck at reading), but from their website: Costumes may be historical, science fiction/fantasy, modern evening dress (black or white tie), or simply basic black (You can NEVER go wrong with basic black!).

Crap my idea was not very formal or historical, time for a new plan.

  • Bhroam

I've been to a peers event before. They are legit. They throw formal events. IIRC, they're going for Victorian period maybe? It's been a while since I've gone. It was fun to dress up and go.

    September 18, 2010

  • Aerie

As far as I can tell from the website, I think it's saying any villian costume is allowed (even your own made-up characters), but if you aren't planning on wearing a costume then you should dress formally.

    I hope its not formal.
Has anyone figured out what their costumes are going to be yet?

I am a little confused about whether all costumes are allowed or whether it needs to be somewhat formal. Anybody know?

    September 7, 2010

  • Aerie

Also! I can try to help with costumy things somewhat... I have moderate craft and sewing skills :D And I just realized I may have to make my costume somewhat modular, since the giant poof dress of my dreams may make it difficult to squeeze next to people on the couch or in the car XD

    September 5, 2010

  • Aerie

So I just noticed they also have a Paypal option... but I might still buy at the door, since their 90's website design with rainbow lines makes me feel a bit iffy about advance payment XD

    September 5, 2010

  • Aerie

I just took a look at the website and Christine is right; the ball is actually in San Mateo. If you want to buy advance tix then you send money to the Alameda address but the event is in San Mateo. @Kit: I'll probably just buy at the door.

Are people buying their tickets in advance or at the door?

    September 3, 2010

  • yting

I just went on the website. I may be wrong, but I got the impression that you send your money to Alameda and party in San Mateo. Oh yeah, will also need help with costumey type things.

Maybe this comic will provide costume inspirations:
