If you have never gone to a dark area and just laid down to watch meteor after meteor soar through the sky, you have missed out on life, the universe, and everything! If you have, you will probably be joining us, as the annual Perseid meteor shower is one of the best astonomical shows available!
Santa Clara County Parks is hosting a night-time viewing of the Perseid Meteor Shower at Calero County Park. Registration is REQUIRED so call [masked] and leave your name, phone number, and number of guests in your car.

The Sky Is Falling, Or Is It? • Calero • 8:30pm-11:30pm
Come spend an evening under the shooting stars! Learn about Perseus
(a Greek hero of mythology) and stay after to watch the Perseid Meteor
Shower. Reservations required. [masked]

NOTES AND LINKS
-Come on time as they will close the parking lot after dark so people's eyes aren't disturbed by headlights.
-We will be lying on the ground in the parking lot so bring blankets, beach towels, or other things to lay on flat so you can see the entire sky. Lawn chairs will not allow you to see the entire sky.
-Come with sweaters, blankets, and long sleeves/pants to stay warm. It gets quite chilly at night out in the middle of nowhere. :D
-Park at the southeast part of the park by the equestrian staging area, NOT the boat launch area.

Loved this. The ranger suggested that if we got the suggestion in by Jan 1 and each paid a nominal fee, this could be an overnight event with byo-tent camping and provided breakfast. Is anyone else really jazzed about this possibility?

Lots of fun, an informative (in soooo many ways...) play, and shooting stars... super fun.
August 12
A lot of fun and great "special effects," too! Thanks for organizing it Will & Hal!
August 12
Great crowd and we had a good time. Very good homemade Banana Bread :). Thanks so much for organizing Will & Hai ! Look forward to the next one.

The astronomical guys were wonderful. I really learned a lot and I still can't believe how beautiful Saturn is.
August 12
We found a nice, open spot to view the shower. Unfortunately, we parked our car in a restricted zone. That's okay; a lot of other people did, too. We'll call it the Perseid Meteor Shower Donation. How's that sound?
August 12
I'm not going to make it out of work in time. If anyone wants to pretend to be me let me know.
August 11
Hey everyone, does anyone know if dogs are allowed in this part of the park?
August 11
Hi everyone, for those that do not have reservations, please remember that you can view the meteor shower from anywhere! You do not need to go to this meetup event to see a spectacular sight. It's best to go to a rural area away from city lights and just look in the sky. Tonight is the peak, but the shower lasts for several more days and nights. Thanks to Will and Hai for organizing such an incredibly popular meetup!

May be a wrong forum to ask but does anyone knows where else can I head to watch it ? I am new to Bay area and park reservations are full as of today -:(

If anyone can't go & has a firm reservation with Calero County Park for this event; can I go under your reservation? Email me [masked].
August 9
I am looking for 2 spots for this event at Calero Park tomorrow night. Would anyone who has already reserved and is not going be willing to give me his/her spots? Thanks!
August 10
The park should have called everyone to give you your CONFIRMATION NUMBER. If you registered on time, and you didn't get called yet, please call the park office to verify your registration. If you didn't register per the instructions above, please update your RSVP as there is no more space. Also, the parking lot opens at 7:45 and the gates CLOSE just after 8:30 so be on time! We sure to bring snacks and warm drinks. See you under the stars!
August 9
@Holly/Pam, I'm most likely going to need to pull out, so there'll be another spot. I'll try to get a concrete answer by tomorrow.
August 8
FYI: Here's another meteor shower viewing event if you can't make this one: http://www.meetup.com/OSA-Hikin...![]()

Hi Yash, I'm not sure who else is hosting this type of event. Check on the websites for the different county park systems. Also some of the area astronomical groups may have some suggestions.
July 30
I'm interested in carpool too. I can meet anyone anywhere in south bay though a ride back to downtown SJ would be great, or a couch if necessary. I offer gas money!
July 30
I'd love to get in a carpool. I can bring a thermos of chai or hot chocolate to share.
July 29
@Alicia, I'd like to know how to get added to the Geek Club list as well. Mayeb Will & Hai can add us.
July 17
Ok, so I'm confirmed with the parks service group. How do I get my reservation in here?
July 17
I just called back and confirmed that I did have a reservation so it is still possible to get in.
July 17
I too missed the meetup reservation period.
I did call the park to make a reservation and they said they will call me back so hopefully it's possible to still get in.
July 16
I actually called them back and they confirmed my reservation. You should be fine Klara.
July 13
I called and left a message within 15 minutes of this meetup being posted but I haven't gotten a call back!
July 13
Looks like they're full peeps! If you call to verify your status on the 'yes' or 'waiting list' please DON'T mention Meetup. They were kind of annoyed that we posted this event on our fantastic group. They are still old-school over there. :D
July 13
I just called and the assistant says that the meteor shower event still has plenty of room. I suggest EVERYONE that hasn't called in yet do it NOW. Those that hesitate, end up late, and it never turns out great!
July 11
Could anyone tell what the ranger was saying in the answering machine message regarding a program being full? I don't think he was naming this one but he stuttered so I couldn't hear what he said!
