--------------------

Ever wanted to know why you could make farts explode?  How phone books could be stronger than steel? Or most importantly, how you can become a warrior for the scientific method while blowing things up with reckless abandon?

Then hold on to your walrus mustaches cause the San Jose Tech Museum will be having a Mythbusters exhibition from October to January!  We will be going on Sunday, November 11th to catch the 2 PM exhibition.  Get there about 15 minutes early so that we are sure that we are all there and ready to go through the exhibition together.

The exhibition includes hands-on experiments, live demonstrations, and the ability to fool around with props from the show! You can read more about the exhibit at the museum site, and also at the Mythbusters Exhibition home site.

Regular exhibition passes are $22.  Passes to the exhibition will also get you into the rest of the museum!

I watched the phone book episode... they interleaved the phone book pages one-by-one by hand! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSu0Tvlm6LY

At first, I thought they must've built some machine to do the tedious work. Nope, all done by hand. (or maybe they hired interns? :-)

I don't't think they hired interns; it was all them in the time-lapse photos.

Just checking -- are Saturday and Sunday both at 2 PM?

    November 9, 2012

  • ReX A.

I really shouldn't have had to post anything. Common courtesy & manners SHOULD apply. But it was obvious w/the Halloween parties that many believe things like manners apply to everyone but them :-(
    This is unfortunate :'(

on an unrelated note, do we need to buy our tickets online in advance?

What is the "usual" procedure for finding one-another once we get there?

    November 6, 2012

    • PikaVu

walk up to random stranger and say, "I need a friend..."

That word "should"... and what one person considers a matter of manners another may consider a matter of self-interest. Best, I think, to handle thee matter without acrimony. As the host, can you change people's RSVPs? Maybe informing everyone that double-dipping with a Yes and a Waitlist is grounds for not having any Yes RSVPs accepted for some time (30 days?) would get people to change their ways better than complaining seems to.

Personally, I think being RSVP'd as 'in' for both is rude - but I don't see it as rude to be in one, and waitlisted on the other. I'm on the waiting list for Sunday because I have a conflicting engagement on Saturday that I will have to opt out of if I can't get into the on the 11th. So people might have valid reasons for trying to get into one over the other! If I get into the Sunday meetup then I will, of course, drop out of this Saturday one.

Or my Saturday plans could just get rescheduled. Phew!

have guys got the tickets ? group tickets ?

    November 4, 2012

  • ReX A.

Don't want to offend but if you are RSVPed, not waitlisted, for both events please pick one of the two days so that others will get a chance to go. This is a courtesy to our fellow geeks.

You should also post this message and your next one on the other event.

There are 3 spots that could open up for either day if certain individuals would just choose one day instead of both. There are a handful of spots that could open up if people would choose to attend (or not) & not waitlist for the other day. Seriously have consideration for others :-(

    November 2, 2012

  • ReX A.

To the group at large: the reason I'm not doing the group tickets sales is because of the stress of collecting money. If someone else in this group would like to take this burden onto themselves you have my blessing ;-)

    October 29, 2012

  • Rachael

Hey - is there any way to get in on the group entrance price of only $17?

    October 28, 2012

  • ReX A.

    @kitty :-D

    October 26, 2012

  • ReX A.

@kitty it's not fair to the rest of the people on the wait list for you to do so. There is order for a reason. You need to RSVP no so that the next person on the wait list can attend.

Originally I RSVPed myself and had a +1. I realized I had other obligations so I changed my guest just to myself, so David can take my place. If you do not think this is a good way, then I did not mean to cause any confusion.

Thank you Tia for taking me off the list and putting David on the list. :)
