Play a Burning Wheel One-Shot

The Imperial capital Vysok is exploding. A peasant revolt has swarmed the streets, and a rebel mob has nearly overtaken the Cloistered Palace and the denizens of the high court.

In this frantic, fast-paced one-shot, players will take on the roles of the last remnants of the imperial court, desperately trying to escape the city before the night is done.

Burning Wheel is a character-focused, story-centric fantasy role playing system in which players are forced to confront the core beliefs and motivations of their characters in order to move forward. It's a system full of strategy and nuance, but we'll be playing with the core ruleset so that players new to the system can jump right in and have fun.

For those of you guys that were interested in a proper campaign, I put up a meetup for a one-shot of a world-building game called Microscope. Through playing this game with whoever shows up, we'll build the world that the campaign will take place in.

Hey Will - This is very cool, and I'd love to be a part of it. However, in the interest of full disclosure, I feel like I should say that I'll be leaving town at the beginning June, and won't be back til late-September. Any way we could work with that?

We can definitely work something out. The Microscope one shot will be disconnected from the campaign at large,
so your absence shouldn't effect that. As for the Burning Wheel campaign, there are plenty of rules governing training and advancement that would allow us to incorporate your absence into your character's story (say, as a pilgrim about to embark on a holy venture) and have them return in step with the rest of the party.

I might be 15 minutes late due to a certain muni route having 90 minutes between buses.

Hey, got in too late to make this one, will you be doing another?

    April 6, 2013

    • Will C.

If there's enough interest, sure! Though I may start a proper campaign next time.

Just so everyone knows, because of a scheduling conflict at Gamescape, I'll be holding this game at my apartment. I just moved in, so I'll apologize for the spartan accommodations ahead of time. Hopefully sitting on pillows around a low coffee table isn't a deal-breaker for anyone.

It looks like nearly everyone will be new to this system, so you'll be in good company to learn, I imagine. I posted a link to a pdf of the source book in an earlier comment though, so feel free to check that out before tomorrow if you want.

Rats! I've got overtime this weekend. Was hoping to get someone to cover. Sorry guys, will have to catch this next time. Don't want to hog the space but if anything changes, I'll try to make it.

Oh BOY! I own this game, but have never gotten to play it!

For those of you guys who haven't played Burning Wheel before, here's a link to the pdf. This is for you guys to get a good idea of the system, so don't sell or redistribute yaddayaddayadda.

I spoke with Marcus about it the other day and he said there should be space. If for some reason there was a miscommunication or any issue with space, I can host the game at my apartment in Twin Peaks.

Arrrggh! Just found out about the regionals, my calender is all screwed up. Looks like that will take up table space. I'm so sorry I messed that up Will. There will be space next Saturday, but that is also when Justin will be running LofTFP, which could cause a mix in players wanting to try out both games. Again I'm really sorry.

That's alright. I'm a little light on furniture, but I don't mind hosting everybody at my place.

Did you guys ask the shop if they'll have space? This is when they're having the game of thrones regional card tournament.

Burning Wheel can take an entire session to build characters, so I'll be passing out some pre-made characters for everyone once I get an idea of how many people are interested.
