Every Thursday in August, the Jung Center hosts free community movie screenings and lectures which examine film and psychoanalysis. Each screening will be followed by brief comments from a different speaker from The Houston Psychoanalytic Society and The Jung Center. We will provide popcorn and candy to get you in the movie mood. No registration required. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.
First up: The Stendahl Syndrome
A Dario Argento film described as an over-the-top Italian dramatization of this psychosomatic disorder that occurs spontaneously upon a person’s viewing artistic works in a museum, and which involves dizziness, hallucinations, and confusion. When a police detective in search of a serial killer is overcome by it, she gets led into a trap. The discussion will focus on Dr. Stevenson’s clinical experience with the syndrome. NOTE: This film is unrated and features graphic violence and sexual content.
It's totally free, including the popcorn and candy, but it's a very small venue, so please only RSVP if you're sure you'll be there. I'll hold seats if possible.
