Video Game Night I: Retro Video Games

Retro Games should never be a thing in the past! Discard the love of updated graphics cards, mindless back stories and time-sucking (yet epic) quests for one night, and roll back in time with an assortment of retro video games, food, and fun.

This will be a potluck event so donations of food, drinks and ice are greatly appreciated.

Note: Those bringing in retro game systems and games - let Mike and I know so that we coordinated how to get it all set up.

I have a small 13 inch TV/VCR Combo I can bring so others may hook up their video game system to it. I also believe I have one of those joystick game systems that has a few retro games on it... I'll bring it just for giggles if I can find it.

I sent out an email to everyone, but Ismael has it right on point too. :o)

I think mike and Jenn will have two or so setups with different systems. Im bringing my nes and snes, tv and tv-stand to maximize space. I hope someone brings a backup snes, just in case my console goes out.

Is there a plan for what games we will play when?

Sounds fun. If you have the room and can get one, get a projector. Old games can be fun on a giant screen :)
I have a SNES sitting around somewhere (not sure if it works) and a Genesis with the SEGA CD attachment.

There's a website that still offers web-based Balance of Power, if anyone wants to play that.

Very well. I say we split this into two game nights. Let's do a retro game night and another more modern game night. I'll get the events posted up as soon as tomorrow afternoon. :o)

I suggest micro machines and super mario 3 for the NES; donkey kong country and starfox for SNES; and columns and golden axe (not sure if I have this one on hand or in texas) for the Genesis.I would also suggest ninja turtles, xmen, and/or simpsons arcade, but someone would have to download them to their xbox or PS3, yet all downloaded games mentioned are 4 player.

Yes, the Atari 800 can be connected to any TV that has an NTSC or S-Video connector, or to a multi-device hub.

I agree with Ismael that we should focus on a few popular games.
I suggest MULE for the Atari, because it is a really great game, and it is for 4 players.

the atarti 800 can be connected to newer tv's if you we use a multi channel device hub (just make sure the controllers are still function, kept having that problem on my atari). I got most of the systems for a retro night, but I think we need to narrow our games to a short list to maximize entertainment. If there is a game and system that you are interested in playing, we would bring them. I think we have most of them.

I love it! Goodness! Are those even compatible with new tvs now a days?

I can bring my Atari 800.

That place looks awesome! I like the Chickie and Pete's idea but we should make that an event all on its own.

I love the retro game thing! Should we just combine the whole thing together and do multiple game areas?

I would love to do retro game night. I got NES, SNES, Sega Genesis and N64, with most of the games that people remember. I have an atari, but its iffy on working with current tv's.

Another alternative might be to go to Chickie's and Pete's and do their Play2 booths. Here's the website http://www.chickiesandpetes.com/play2/. It would, of course be more expensive than going to someone's house and we'd be limited to their selection, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

We could also go retro. I have my original nintendo with lots of classic games. I'm not sure if it still works, but it could be fun to try out.

This is a great idea! There were some interest about having a video game night like this! I have plenty of games (including a few DDR games). We could host if we could get all of the set up coordinated, but if there is anyone else out there who would like to host, post a comment.
