Lunch and Harrisburg Candlelight House Tour

The Harrisburg Historic Association has a Candlelight House tour every year to kick off the holiday lighting season and highlight a specific historic neighborhood in Harrisburg.  This 40th anniversary tour highlights Harrisburg’s Historic Midtown District and boasts 17 properties including Pennsylvania’s Governor’s Residence, Midtown’s historic Boas Street United Methodist Church, and a Mediterranean style property designed by Harrisburg renowned architect Charles Howard Lloyd.  My thought is that we all meet for lunch across the river at Duke's in Wormleysburg and then carpool over to Harrisburg from there so we can minimize the amount of parking we need to find in Harrisburg around the tour.  We will be buying tickets individually, they are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  The link to purchase tickets is below, as well as taking you to a page to get more information.   The tour goes from 1pm-6pm, though I don't think we need to be there the whole time - I believe that's just when the houses will be open for viewing.

I will find our additional information about where the tour starts and post that for anyone who can't make it to lunch.  If you are attending just for the tour and not for lunch, please comment on the board when you RSVP.

My friend Cathy and I had sooo much fun too. Lunch was a great time. David and Jill we had a great time with both of you at the Governor's Mansion. Jill, we never did find that missing house. Haha. But it was fun running around in the snow and seeing all of those great old homes with you. It was a great day! Hope to see you all again at future meetups!

Hey good conversation at dukes but the members in the group and then headed off to the governor's mansion for the Christmas tour. I did not do the rest of the homes on the tour but enjoy the time I did with the group.

I had soooooo much fun at Dukes then my fellow explorers and I went on the tour. We absolutely had a blast running around in the snow and visiting these stunning homes. The last one I visited was built in 1874, beautifully and thoughtfully restored to preserve the original ambience of the home. We started off with the governor's mansion and continued into midtown. I cant say enough about how much fun it was! The snow did not deter and actually made it more fun and Christmasy in each of these gorgeous homes. Thanks girls for running around with me!!!

    Sorry not gonna make it

The snow is coming down and laying on the roads at a few small places, and it looks like it will be getting worst. I'm sorry but I think it would be safer for me to cancel since I have a half-hour drive to get back home. However, Thank You for setting this up. I look forward to going to the other meetups.

I am terribly sorry but I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel my reservation. I was really hoping the forecast would change by today. I'm an hour from Harrisburg so I'm thinking I would be too stressed to completely enjoy myself because of worrying about the drive home.

Well it seems like a wintery mix by 1:00 so I am going to cancel my attendance. Sorry.

Okay, here is my current proposal. Being that the weather is iffy and there's going to be people more on board for lunch than the tour, lets go to lunch and then we can play the tour by ear. If the weather seems good and its not as bad as what they are saying, then we can go buy our tickets the day of. But if the weather is not something we want to walk around in, we can just call it a day after lunch :-). If you don't think the weather will permit you to come out to lunch, then please change your RSVP as soon as possible.

My plans have changed from earlier today... Now I probably will not be able to make it to lunch either. I really like this group, so I enjoy meeting up whenever possible.

If you're just doing lunch, do you still need to pay the fifteen dollars? I am cconfused?

      December 7, 2013

    • Erica

No, that is for the cost of the tour. If you are only doing lunch, you are responsible for your lunch cost

Hi Erica! Is it too late to bring a friend? Could you change the reso for 1 more person?

    December 6, 2013

    • Erica

Hi Devon, that's fine! Just add a guest to your RSVP and ill take care of the reservation :-)

I'm confused. I'd like to go lunch at Duke's. I am not sure about the tour. I would love to do lunch. That probably is not the point of the 'meetup' though. Is it okay to just go to the lunch at Duke's?

      December 7, 2013

I am confused. How do you buy a ticket? I dn't see the link?

Hey everyone, the weather forecast is for a wintry mix during our meetup time on Sunday so if you don't want to walk around in that, please change your RSVP as soon as possible so I can update the lunch reservation. Thanks!

I will be joining everyone for dinner and I can't make a commitment on the tour yet. I have another function later in the afternoon so as of now the tour is up in the air.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
